    Abstract
    Am 1. Oktober 2015 wird die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (DNB) mit der Erschließung nach dem Regelwerk Resource Description and Access (RDA) beginnen. Die Verbünde und Bibliotheken in Deutschland, Österreich und der deutschsprachigen Schweiz folgen innerhalb der darauffolgenden drei Monate. Im Vorfeld des Umstiegs auf RDA waren nicht nur umfangreiche Schulungsunterlagen zu erstellen und Schulungen zu planen, sondern die DNB musste auch ihre Erschließungspraxis überprüfen und hat in Folge dieser Überprüfung sowohl die Formal- als auch die Inhaltserschließung neu ausgerichtet.

    In 1995 a full time project worker was appointed to promote the Library Association bid to the Millennium Commission for funding for a project aimed at connecting all public libraries to the Information Superhighway, work with Project EARL (Electronic Access to Resources in Libraries), and participate in UKOLN public library research. Describes the 2 unsuccessful millennium bids, and work with EARL and UKOLN. Appendices include: a job description, details of 5 case studies looking at networking activities in public library authorities which were submitted as part of the 2nd millennium bis, examples of relevant articles published, and details of the 1st millennium bid

Outlines the project's design work and a demonstration system. Reviews the standards applicable to bibliographic data and library OPACs. Discusses the service requirements of OPACs for accessing bibliographic, discussing how X.500 Directory services may be used. Suggests the DIT structures that coulb be used for storing both bibliographic information and descriptions on information resources in general in the directory.     Abstract
    RDA provides a set of guidelines and instructions on formulating data to support resource discovery. The data created using RDA to describe a resource are designed to assist users performing the following tasks: find-i.e., to find resources that correspond to the user's stated search criteria: identify-i.e., to confirm that the resource described corresponds to the resource sought, or to distinguish between two or more resources with similar characteristics select-i.e., to select a resource that is appropriate to the user's needs obtain-i.e., to acquire or access the resource described. The data created using RDA to describe an entity associated with a resource (a person, family, corporate body, concept, etc.) are designed to assist users performing the following tasks: find-i.e., to find information on that entity and on resources associated with the entity identify-i.e., to confirm that the entity described corresponds to the entity sought, or to distinguish between two or more entities with similar names, etc. clarify-i.e., to clarify the relationship between two or more such entities, or to clarify the relationship between the entity described and a name by which that entity is known understand-i.e., to understand why a particular name or title, or form of name or title, has been chosen as the preferred name or title for the entity.

    Definition of a conceptual reference model to provide a framework for the analysis of non-administrative metadata relating to library resources. The resulting model definition was approved by the FRBR Review Group (November 2016), and then made available to the Standing Committees of the Sections on Cataloguing and Subject Analysis & Access, as well as to the ISBD Review Group, for comment in December 2016. The final document was approved by the IFLACommittee on Standards (August 2017).

    Abstract
    Addresses the problems of content retrieval in the construction of pictorial database management systems. Presents a generalisable architecture for the effective identification of specific pictures from a large collection and describes prototype system based on this architecture successfully implemented. The architecture consists of 3 main components: picture description; picture indexing and filing, and picture retrieval. The description of pictures is facilitated by using the main semantic concepts employed in the entity-attribute-relationship model. The chief function of the picture indexing and filing component is to convert the logical representations into a relational data format to prepare for subsequent processing initiated by picture queries

    This guide introduces Protégé 4 for creating OWL ontologies. Chapter 3 gives a brief overview of the OWL ontology language. Chapter 4 focuses on building an OWL-DL ontology and using a Description Logic Reasoner to check the consistency of the ontology and automatically compute the ontology class hierarchy. Chapter 7 describes some OWL constructs such as hasValue Restrictions and Enumerated classes, which aren't directly used in the main tutorial.

    Abstract
    This guide introduces the Protégé-OWL plugin for creating OWL ontologies. Chapter 3 gives a brief overview of the OWL ontology language. Chapter 4 focuses an building an OWL-DL ontology and using a Description Logic Reasoner to check the consistency of the ontology and automatically compute the ontology class hierarchy. Chapter 6 describes some OWL constructs such as has Value Restrictions and Enumerated classes, which aren't directly used in the main tutorial. Chapter 7 describes Namespaces, Importing ontologies and various features and utilities of the Protégé-OWL application.
