    Abstract
Outlines 3 projects being carried out by OCLC Europe: for the French Ministry of Education and Culture, involving the conversion of 640.000 titles for 17 university libraries throughout Frnace; for the University of Oxford, conversion of 1,8 million titles in the Bodleian Library's post-1920 collection; and the University College, London, the conversion of 32.000 titles covering the American, Latin American and London history areas of the history library. Provides some brief historical details about the libraries and collections concerned

    Abstract
The conversion of the British Library Catalogue of Printed Books (to 1975), took place between 1987 and 1991. This conversion, unique in size and scope, posed problems which were not easily addressed by conventional conversion techniques. Summarises the decisions taken to resolve these problems, the methodology by which conversion was successfully achieved and considers the importance of these initial conditions in the subsequent development of the catalogue

    Abstract
Cooperative cataloguing systems in Europe have not developed sufficiently to enable member libraries to carry out cost-effective, retrospective conversion projects because they still require all data entry to be carried online. The main issues that need to be considered are: the avoidance of duplication of bibliographic records; maintaining cooperative standards of cataloguing; and the application of authority control. These can be addressed to enable the batch loading of records created externally to the database - thus providing a cost-effective conversion solution - through the use of long search keys; modern database software; and the utilisation of specialised conversion skills as developed in SAZTEC

    Abstract
As part of an investigation as to whether a national retrospective catalogue conversion programme is justified, presents a summary of the results of a survey of retrospective conversion programmes in UK higher education libraries. The survey was conducted by the author in association with Philip Bryant of the University of Bath in Dec 1994 and Jan 1995. Questionnaires were sent to 266 higher education libraries in the UK: 226 were completed and returned

    Abstract
This paper aims to bring together in one place books, articles, reports, and lectures on retrospective conversion in print and non-print formats, appearing between 1980-1990. The bibliography, preceded by a brief review of the literature, is divided into ten broad categories to facilitate quick reference.

    Abstract
The FRBR model is by many considered to be an important contribution to the next generation of bibliographic catalogues, but a major challenge for the library community is how to use this model on already existing MARC-based bibliographic catalogues. This problem requires a solution for the interpretation and conversion of MARC records, and a tool for this kind of conversion is developed as a part of the Norwegian BIBSYS FRBR project. The tool is based on a systematic approach to the interpretation and conversion process and is designed to be adaptable to the rules applied in different catalogues.

    Abstract
In May 95 the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung's library was computerized, using Allegro software, MAB structures and the North Rhine Westphalian category scheme with local adaptations. Conversion of the old catalogue for 500.000 media is now complete. The library took over 120.000 volumes from the former Deutsche Gewerkschaftsbund in 1995; seperate conversion of this catalogue should be completed in 1996. 50.000 volumes were entered in an interim catalogue, for amalgamation soon

    Abstract
Discusses plans for the retrospective conversion of the Union Catalogue of Books which holds stock locations for the British Library Document Supply Centre's collection of non-current monographs. This will be undertaken by Catalogue Bridge, managed by the National Bibliographic Service, and the conversion work involves 3 processes: creation of the search files; matching the search files against the databases and capturing all available records; and merging of local information with the captured records
