    Abstract
This paper presents an overview of the work in progress at the W3C to produce a standard conversion of WordNet to the RDF/OWL representation language in use in the SemanticWeb community. Such a standard representation is useful to provide application developers a high-quality resource and to promote interoperability. Important requirements in this conversion process are that it should be complete and should stay close to WordNet's conceptual model. The paper explains the steps taken to produce the conversion and details design decisions such as the composition of the class hierarchy and properties, the addition of suitable OWL semantics and the chosen format of the URIs. Additional topics include a strategy to incorporate OWL and RDFS semantics in one schema such that both RDF(S) infrastructure and OWL infrastructure can interpret the information correctly, problems encountered in understanding the Prolog source files and the description of the two versions that are provided (Basic and Full) to accommodate different usages of WordNet.

    Abstract
In May 95 the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung's library was computerized, using Allegro software, MAB structures and the North Rhine Westphalian category scheme with local adaptations. Conversion of the old catalogue for 500.000 media is now complete. The library took over 120.000 volumes from the former Deutsche Gewerkschaftsbund in 1995; seperate conversion of this catalogue should be completed in 1996. 50.000 volumes were entered in an interim catalogue, for amalgamation soon

    Abstract
Discusses plans for the retrospective conversion of the Union Catalogue of Books which holds stock locations for the British Library Document Supply Centre's collection of non-current monographs. This will be undertaken by Catalogue Bridge, managed by the National Bibliographic Service, and the conversion work involves 3 processes: creation of the search files; matching the search files against the databases and capturing all available records; and merging of local information with the captured records

    Abstract
Although the papers presented at the 1sr Int. Conf. on Retrospective Cataloguing in Europe: 15th-19th Century Materials, Munich, Nov. 90, implied the production of online catalogues, it should be borne in mind that manual catalogues still have some advantages and compuetrised catalogues have certain disadvantages. For example the guard book catalogue at Cambridge University Library can provide a range of access points that cannot be equalled. The demands of the majority of users, however, are held to keep conversion to computerised cataloguing at the top of the library's priority list

    Abstract
Describes the various steps taken to produce a major bibliographic catalogue on CD-ROM: Describes the history of the development of the printed catalogue, its conversion to machine-readable form and the subsequent design and production of the CD-ROM version. The functional requirements of the software are discussed as are making plans and pricing decisions. Some features of the product, the British Library General Catalogue of Printed Books to 1975, are illustrated.

    Abstract
Defines retrospective conversion, discusses the origins of the term and describes developments during the 80s. Discusses objectives of retrospective conversion, techniques of data capture and conversion in house as opposed to conversion by an outside specialist. Stresses the need for planning, possible problems, the choice of standards and of bibliographic storage

    Abstract
In 1990, Lancaster University Library began a programme of retrospective catalogue conversion, initially using data from the BNB on CD-ROM and more recently LoC CDMARC Bibliographic. The proportioin of stock in full machine readbale form has increased from 30% in Dec 90 to 72% in Jul 94. Reports on: technical details of the procedures used; staff training and work patterns; card removal and stock monitoring; success rates for matching true ISBNs (1969-1984) against BNB on CD-ROM; success rates for matching authors and titles (1950-70) against BNB on CD-ROM; success rates for matching true ISBNs (1969-84) against CDMARC; anticipated efficiency of downloading; costs of materials and staff; and overall costs. Discusses quality in respect of databases of OPAC and planned future developments
