Describes the Electronic Library Image Service for Europe (ELISE) project funded by the Commission for the European Communities, its overall aim and lists the 5 main challenges for the project team which include: identifying image bank technical requirements; exploring storage and retrieval mechanisms; exploring client needs and design user interfaces; the production of a pilot system; and devising a model for the international interconnection of systems
