    Abstract
Traces the development of distance education programmes which has been fuelled by the non-traditional student, the growth of the Internet, television and videoconferencing. Key elements of library services for distance education are: reference services, a portfolio of nearby libraries or other resources, document delivery, provision of a broad suite of electronic databases, electronic journals, a database of subject specialists, and use of electronic resources on the WWW

    Abstract
2nd part of a 2 part review of the electronic journal marketplace in 1997. Covers the activities of companies who aggregate under a single umbrella large numbers of electronic journals from a variety of publishers. In some cases the journals are centrally loaded and offered through a common interface, in others only abstract and citation information are offered, but a common gateway is provided to a wide variety of publishers. Covers: OCLC Electronic Collections Online, Blackwell's Electronic Journal Navigator, Institute for Scientific Information, JSTOR Project, OVID Technologies Inc., EBSCO Information Services, Information Access Company, University Microfilms International, ProQuest, ProQuest Direct, LEXIS-NEXIS, and commerical document delivery and subscription services

    Abstract
Arizona State University installed the Tandem-based CARL integrated library system in 1987. This software supports all the traditional functions of an integrated system plus the ability to act as a platform for creating or loading multiple databases. The functionality of CARL software for this purpose is described, a brief rundown of databases loaded at ASU is provided, and the criteria for selecting databases is given. Public response and library instruction issues for locally loaded databases are briefly examined as is the future of the electronic library

    Abstract
The Internet refers to more than 50.000 backbone regional and local computer networks in more than 50 countries with an estimated user base of over 3 million people. Finding out who has what available on the Internet has become a real problem since the network is expanding so quickly. Describes Archie (the McGill School of Computer Science Archive Server Listing Service), a tool which was developed to help solve this problem. Also describes Gopher, a distributed networking and document delivery system designed to access electronic information and navigate the Internet
