    Abstract
    The Zeitschriftendienst (ZD), a topical periodical analysis service, began publication in 1965 and now covers 200 periodicals. The Deutsche Bibliotheksinstitut has used electronic data processing for publishing since 1974. The editorial board processes and coordinates all incoming periodicals analysis. A committee advises on cataloguing problems, selects new entries and old material for discarding. In 1990 it was decided to use the Schlagwortnormdatei, a standardised subject heading system used in many libraries...The service is available in printed form on microfiche and disc. It may be possible to store ZD in in-house systems.

    Abstract
    1967 saw the publication of the printed Erlangen periodicals index. Between 1973-76 an alphabetical union catalogue for the university of Erlangen-Nürnberg was produced. From 1982 main entries went to the Bavarian library cooperative offline and computerization was introduced. In 1986 the periodicals index began using computerization; the union catalogue was filmed and appeared in microfiche in 1987. Now the Erlangen cooperative has 1.4 million entries, one third from institute libraries

    Abstract
    The library has a centre for buying, cataloguing and storing microform, audio-visual media and other non-book material. Cataloguing of microform is difficult, because of the wide range of subjects covered and the lack of cataloguing aids. The library uses some external services for on-line cataloguing of individual monographs in large microform collections. Some magnetic tapes with little entries are also bought from the Online Computer Library Center in Ohio. All periodicals and serials are entered as individual titles. The periodicals catalogue is available on-line and in microfiche form. Microfiche copies of German dissertations are catalogued on-line as an external service of the Deutsche Bibliothek. Foreign dissertations are catalogued on-line in Göttingen. The recently published union catalogue of large microform collections in West Germany will assist in cataloguing in future.

    Abstract
    Austrian secondary school libraries have maximum stocks of 12.000 items but need effective administration. The user friendly software LITTERA was chosen for use there; experiences in a gymnasium library stocking 7.800 books, 2.100 periodicals and other media are described. The input format for book entry is clear and comprehensive: subordinate menus simplify input work. LITTERA can be used in short entry form for retrospective conversion.     Abstract
    Describes the result of seminars on the software package, Allegro, on 27-28 Oct and 3-4 Nov 88, organised by Brunswick Technical University Library and the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel, in order to provide an opportunity for exchanging experiences on different Allegro applications, as well as information on current developments of Allegro and its prospects. Examines a series of case histories, including the use of Allegro in small libraries for cataloguing and the production of card catalogues, the creation of lists of new titles and subject catalogues for circulation, the cataloguing of periodicals with data in MARC format on CD-ROM, the use of Allegro in both MS-DOS and UNIX environment, and improvements in response times, as well as the introduction of window technology.
