- This annotated bibliography is meant to serve as an introduction to the topic of providing subject access to visual images for cataloguers and other librarians whose horizons have been narrowly limited to Library of Congress Subject Headings. Several of the articles provide helpful overviews concerning subject access in picture databases: others explore specific databases, and approaches to providing verbal subject access as well as issues relevant to nonverbal image retrieval
