    Elektronische Produktion, Verbreitung und Rezeption von Texten - deren integrative Wechselbeziehungen eingeschlossen - verändern unausweichlich unsere Forschungs-, Lernund Arbeitsbedingungen. In diesem Wandel braucht es Orientierung, Strategien und Kompetenzen. Dieser Band bietet sie in interdisziplinärer Vielfalt. Teil 1 befaßt sich mit Wissen und Wissenschaft. Er spannt den Bogen der Medientheorie von der Antike bis ins 21. Jahrhundert und bietet einen konstruktivistischen Ansatz für das Wissensmanagement. Textsortenkonventionen und Hypertext sind ebenso Schwerpunkte wie empiriegestützte Guidelines und innovative Werkzeuge für das wissenschaftliche Arbeiten. Teil 2 ist Lernumgebungen gewidmet. Reflexionen zur Theorie von hypermedialem Lernen und Kognition werden ergänzt durch ein Produktionssystem für interaktive Software.     Abstract
    Multimedia is proliferating on Web sites, as the Web continues to enhance the integration of multimedia and textual information. In this paper we examine trends in multimedia Web searching by Excite users from 1997 to 2001. Results from an analysis of 1,025,910 Excite queries from 2001 are compared to similar Excite datasets from 1997 to 1999. Findings include: (1) queries per multimedia session have decreased since 1997 as a proportion of general queries due to the introduction of multimedia buttons near the query box, (2) multimedia queries identified are longer than non-multimedia queries, and (3) audio queries are more prevalent than image or video queries in identified multimedia queries. Overall, we see multimedia Web searching undergoing major changes as Web content and searching evolves.

    Abstract
    Currently, there is no structured data standard for representing elements commonly found in transmedia fictional worlds. Although there are websites dedicated to individual universes, the information found on these sites separate out the various formats, concentrate on only the bibliographic aspects of the material, and are only searchable with full text. We have created an ontological model that will allow various user groups interested in transmedia to search for and retrieve the information contained in these worlds based upon their structure. We conducted a domain analysis and user studies based on the contents of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, the Marvel Universe, and Star Wars in order to build a new model using Ontology Web Language (OWL) and an artificial intelligence-reasoning engine. This model can infer connections between transmedia properties such as characters, elements of power, items, places, events, and so on. This model will facilitate better search and retrieval of the information contained within these vast story universes for all users interested in them. The result of this project is an OWL ontology reflecting real user needs based upon user research, which is intuitive for users and can be used by artificial intelligence systems.

    Abstract
    This paper considers the issues surrounding the fit between information systems and organisation structures. The paper uses philosophical ideas concerning knowledge and applies them to organisational design and information processing in order to encourage alternative perspectives and new ideas. This is achieved by a discussion of the issues surrounding organisational design and the impact of design on information processing; an overview of the ideas concerning the theory of knowledge proposed from both a rational and an empirical viewpoint and how these relate to other epistemological theories such as historicism and pragmatism. The paper closes with a discussion of the means by which philosophical considerations can assist towards new forms of information processing.

    In diesem Beitrag wird anhand praktischer Beispiele von Internet-Angeboten aufgezeigt wie weitgehend und umfassend Informations-Design bei der Formung von multimedialen Kommunikationslösungen beteiligt ist und welche Aspekte dabei wichtig sind. Es werden konzeptionell-strategische Gesamtaspekte beleuchtet und funktional-optisch wichtige Details aufgezeigt. Die Bedeutung von Informations-Design für die Oualität von vor allem elektronischen Publikationen und Anwendungen wird im Hinblick auf den Anwendernutzen dargestellt.
