- Abstract
- The cultural minister's speech to Danish Research Library Association'a annual meeting. The information society brings opportunities for citizens to take responsibility, but also gives rise to new power centres. We must take political decisions that favour equal access, using the strategy outlined in government reports. The Committee on Libraries in the Info-society will evaluate their role as centres for promotion of knowledge, culture and citizenship, the differing roles of public, central and research libraries, examine user charges and copyright. The research libraries have seen growth in lending and service improvement due to use of information technology. Their desire to become advanced multimedia workshops will necessitate large government investments. A 3 million kroner grant will be used to analyze the future need for computer investment in the cultural ministerial research libraries. The ministry is setting up 'Kulturnet Danmark' to develop cooperation between cultural institutions
