    Abstract
    Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich im ersten Teil mit den theoretischen Grundlagen, Aufgaben und Funktionen eines Dokumentenmanagement-Systems. In diesem Zusammenhang erklärt werden auch Metadaten, Indexierung, Thesaurus und die bekanntesten Klassifikationssysteme. Erwähnt werden auch das Semantic Web und dessen Technologien. Die Schritte der Realisierung einer SQL-Datenbank, in welcher die Metadaten abgebildet werden, werden in den praktischen Teil der Arbeit näher beschrieben.

    Abstract
    Discusses the skills and competencies required by contemporary records managers. The role of the records manager has recently gained a higher profile - due to increasing legislation (resulting from various corporate scandals worldwide) requiring organisations to focus an the integrity, currency and accessibility of their records. Case studies are included in the book to indicate the wide range of activities undertaken by records managers. The book addresses the skills and competencies required by records managers and considers how these are acquired and developed. Using guidance, actions plans can be developed by the reader. Using research undertaken by the author, a sample of roles currently undertaken is evaluated in detail to provide examples of the competencies and skills required for each role.

    Abstract
    Gedruckte Medien, wie Bücher, Zeitschriften und Zeitungen sind kulturhistorisch und marktwirtschaftlich wichtige Informationsquellen auf dem Weg zur Wissensgesellschaft. Um sie elektronisch verfügbar zu machen, um sie bereitzustellen und zu vermarkten, werden vorhandene Dokumente digitalisiert, mit besonderen Analyseverfahren inhaltlich erschlossen und über Web-Portale zur Verfügung gestellt. Es ist jedoch eine besondere Herausforderung, sicher und schnell auf zentral verwaltete Dokumentbestände über das Internet zuzugreifen. Beim Abruf von qualitativ hochwertigen Digitalisaten werden große Datenmengen übertragen. Dadurch steigt der Bandbreitenbedarf und die Zugriffszeiten verlängern sich. Außerdem unterliegen urheberrechtlich geschützte Dokumente besonderen gesetzlichen Beschränkungen. Für die wirtschaftliche Verwertung von digitalisierten Druckmedien ist daher neben der inhaltlichen Erschließung auch der Einsatz von geeigneten Leseanwendungen notwendig. Das Fraunhofer-Institut Intelligente Analyse- und Informationssysteme (IAIS) entwickelt Techniken,um diese Herausforderungen zu meistern.

    Abstract
    Computer users spend time every day interacting with digital files and folders, including downloading, moving, naming, navigating to, searching for, sharing, and deleting them. Such file management has been the focus of many studies across various fields, but has not been explicitly acknowledged nor made the focus of dedicated review. In this article we present the first dedicated review of this topic and its research, synthesizing more than 230 publications from various research domains to establish what is known and what remains to be investigated, particularly by examining the common motivations, methods, and findings evinced by the previously furcate body of work. We find three typical research motivations in the literature reviewed: understanding how and why users store, organize, retrieve, and share files and folders, understanding factors that determine their behavior, and attempting to improve the user experience through novel interfaces and information services. Relevant conceptual frameworks and approaches to designing and testing systems are described, and open research challenges and the significance for other research areas are discussed. We conclude that file management is a ubiquitous, challenging, and relatively unsupported activity that invites and has received attention from several disciplines and has broad importance for topics across information science.
