    Abstract
The IMPEL2 Project, a JISC-funded Electronic Libraries Programme project based at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle, UK, is focusing on the human and organizational aspects of electronic library development. The project has 5 individual but linked strands, one of which is looking at the implementation of resource based learning in higher education institutions and the impact upon Information Services staff. Reports the findings of the IMPEL2 Project on resource based learning which indicate that the role of the subject librarian in academic libraries is changing, that subject librarians are taking on new duties and responsibilities and have an important part to play in the mplementation of resource based learning

    Abstract
Provides a brief summary of an OCLC funded project 'Identifying barriers to effective subject access in library catalogues'. The study investigated the probability that a skilled catalogue user would retrieve 'the best' materials on some subject, and if they were unable to do so, to determine how this could be improved. The transformation of the card catalogue onto an online database has not improved subject access. Offers a view of research in the context of the education and research roles of the library and information science educator. Discusses the university research environment, teaching students research skills and OCLC

    Abstract
NewsAgent for Libraries is one of the projects funded by the eLib programme in the UK. Following a brief historical account of the original ideas behind the project, describes the main stages in developing the project: which aims to create a user configurable electronic news and current awareness service for library and information professionals with a mixture of content streams, including metadata. Users' interests are specified by profiles which are then matched with incoming records so that users are alerted by electronic mail of items of potential interest. Examples of creating profiles and of some of the 'input feeds' in the project are given as well as an example of the use of the Dublic Core metadata format for describing resources covered in NewsAgent

    Abstract
Presents a research project funded by the Spanish government and conducted by professors and students of library and information science, principally from the University of Granada, in collaboration with 2 organizations specializing in electronic information. The research group, 'Virtual reality interface for accessing electronic information', aims to define and develop a new interface for access to electronic information, with particular emphasis on the need for a 3-dimensional metaphor designed specially to improve inter-user communication and to facilitate browsing among great volumes of electronic information

    Abstract
DISC-UK DataShare (2007-2009), a project led by the University of Edinburgh and funded by JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee, UK), arises from an existing consortium of academic data support professionals working in the domain of social science datasets (Data Information Specialists Committee-UK). We are working together across four universities with colleagues engaged in managing open access repositories for e-prints. Our project supports 'early adopter' academics who wish to openly share datasets and presents a model for depositing 'orphaned datasets' that are not being deposited in subject-domain data archives/centres. Outputs from the project are intended to help to demystify data as complex objects in repositories, and assist other institutional repository managers in overcoming barriers to incorporating research data. By building on lessons learned from recent JISC-funded data repository projects such as SToRe and GRADE the project will help realize the vision of the Digital Repositories Roadmap, e.g. the milestone under Data, "Institutions need to invest in research data repositories" (Heery and Powell, 2006). Application of appropriate metadata is an important area of development for the project. Datasets are not different from other digital materials in that they need to be described, not just for discovery but also for preservation and re-use. The GRADE project found that for geo-spatial datasets, Dublin Core metadata (with geo-spatial enhancements such as a bounding box for the 'coverage' property) was sufficient for discovery within a DSpace repository, though more indepth metadata or documentation was required for re-use after downloading. The project partners are examining other metadata schemas such as the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) versions 2 and 3, used primarily by social science data archives (Martinez, 2008). Crosswalks from the DDI to qualified Dublin Core are important for describing research datasets at the study level (as opposed to the variable level which is largely out of scope for this project). DataShare is benefiting from work of of the DRIADE project (application profile development for evolutionary biology) (Carrier, et al, 2007), eBank UK (developed an application profile for crystallography data) and GAP (Geospatial Application Profile, in progress) in defining interoperable Dublin Core qualified metadata elements and their application to datasets for each partner repository. The solution devised at Edinburgh for DSpace will be covered in the poster.

    Abstract
The European Community has funded a project to investigate all aspects of the use of CD-ROM as a vehicle for the dissemination of the bibliographic data of the 7 countries participating in the European Community's National Libraries project on CD-ROM. Reports the results of a sub-project which focused on the potential use of CD-ROMs as a source for downloading catalogue results. Outlines the history of the project and summarises its conclusions. Focuses on the BNB on CD-ROM as a cataloguing source

    Abstract
The Hyperlib project, which is a joint, EC-funded project, between the libraries of Antwerp and Loughborough universities, aims to investigate the opportunities for a hypertext-structured catalogue at Antwerp University. Essential to the project was a survey of user requirements. Because of time constraints, however, it proved impossible to develop a full hypertext-structured database. As a result of the project a redesigned OPAC will be implemented in Spring 95, which will include individual journal article sand the opportunity to create personalised menu-structures

    Abstract
This article examines the implementation of an authority control project in the Keystone Library Network, an eighteen-member1 library consortium in Pennsylvania. The project was made possible with monies procured through two Library Services and Technology Act grants. The first grant funded staff training opportunities; the second covered base file cleanup of bibliographic records. The grant process and the management of the authority control project are described in detail.

    Abstract
A project to catalog the computer files available through LEXIS, a full-text legal database, is described. The project, undertaken at the State University of New York at Buffalo Law Library, was funded by the commercial vendor of LEXIS, Mead Data Central, Inc. Special challenges of online remote access computer files, in general, and of the LEXIS files, in particular, are discussed, as are the applications of AACR2 revised Chapter 9 used in the project.

Research at De Montfort Univ., Division of Learning Development, in Leicester, is focused on promoting the idea of the electronic library. Describes the Electronic Library Image Service for Europe (ELISE) project funded by the Commission for the European Communities, its overall aim and lists the 5 main challenges for the project team which include: identifying image bank technical requirements; exploring storage and retrieval mechanisms; exploring client needs and design user interfaces; the production of a pilot system; and devising a model for the international interconnection of systems
