    Abstract
Information technology (IT) encompassing an integrated library system, computer hardware and software, CDROM, Internet, and other domains, including MARC 21 formats, CORC, and metadata standards (Dublin Core, TEI, XML, RDF) has produced far-reaching changes in the job functions of catalogers. Libraries are now coming up with a new set of recruiting requirements for these positions. This paper aims to review job advertisements published in American Libraries (AL) and College and Research Libraries News (C&RL NEWS) to assess the impact of the use of IT in libraries an job requirements and qualifications for catalogers.

    Abstract
The article provides background information on the processing of Arabic materials using a combination of local and modified cataloging rules and the creation of the Arabic card catalog at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals Library (KFUPM). It also gives a brief history of KFUPM library automation and then presents various options considered for developing the Arabized version of DOBIS/LIBIS. Finally, the functions and features of the Arabic online catalog are described

    Abstract
Compares the features and capabilities of 2 CD-ROM databases containing MARC bibliographic records for current and retrospective cataloguing: BiblioFile and CDMARC Bibliographic. When size, coverage, update frequency, search and retrieval capabilities, and record display were compared it was concluded that CDMARC Bibliographic had a clear edge over BiblioFile in most respects. However, BiblioFile has better update frequency and coverage. In CDMARC Bibliographic, while scrolling through the Library of Congress shelflist, collection development librarians can compare the extent of their holdings against those of the Library of Congress

    Abstract
Existing subject headings lists and classification schemes are inadequate to deal with the very specific and rapidly developing subjects of theses and dissertations, and as a result libraries find it costly and time consuming to perform original and full cataloguing of these materials. Many libraries have been forced to improvise on descriptive and subject cataloguing to reduce the processing cost. Describes the improvisations of the Library of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dharan, Saudi Arabia, in cataloguing local and foreign theses and dissertations

    Abstract
The paper aims to review major developments in the MARC format, including a brief description of metadata schemes and cross-walks. It also offers an assessment of how well MARC works for Arabic script materials, a description of the degree to which MARC is used in Saudi Arabia, and the prospects for the use of XML versions of MARC in the Arab world.
