    Abstract
MARC records and online policy documents of selected libraries were reviewed to study the approaches taken by libraries worldwide to catalogue electronic journals. In general, libraries catalogue those electronic journals that are subscribed by them on priority basis. Most of them annotate the e-journal to the print record, some prefer to catalogue them separately, while the majority of the libraries adopt both approaches. While most of the libraries studied prefer full record, cataloguing e-journals separately with a brief record (at least containing MARC fields 245, 500, and 856) that identifies and locates the resource seems to be the best practice.

    Abstract

    Abstract
Attempts to develop the heuristics which would help in building an expert system for the automatic ientification of bibliographic data elements from the title pages of documents. A study focusing on the physical layout of 500 sample title pages identified the pattern of appearance of various bibliographic data elements such as title, author, publisher, sub-title, edition, year and place of publication, and heuristics for each field are developed. Suggests that an expert system should be developed to test the validity of the proposed heuristics with the aim of evaluating the use of such a system for automatic data entry in cataloguing

    Abstract

    Abstract
This article investigates the error rates in shelf-ready cataloged monographs from Ingram Coutts Information Services that were received at The University of Western Ontario. Using quality control reports from a period of two years, over 500 cataloging errors were entered into a database organized by frequency, severity, and other factors. With this information, we analyzed the frequency of errors and their root causes. We found that overall error rates are low, and the quality of shelf-ready cataloging has improved since first implementing the outsourcing program.
