    Abstract
This self-study workbook guides the librarian toward understanding of the library patron. Through examples and exercises, this workbook illustrates factors that influence communication and offers techniques librarians can adopt for effective interaction at the desk. Chapters include: the communication process, barriers to communication, understanding the user, reference librarian, know thyself, the reference interview and additional techniques for reducing noise

    Abstract
The how-to guide for assigning subject headings and subdivisions in a consistent and standardized manner - as practiced at the Library of Congress. Practical guidance on the procedures to follow. Provides cross references from old to new subject headings. Helps reference librarians develop successful search strategies by illustrating LC subject heading practices. Gives the rationale for assigning subject headings to specific works. Indispensible for following LC practice and for working in local cataloging networks and cooperative cataloging projects with LC

    Abstract
A practical, time-saving, how-to manual that helps you assign LC classification numbers to library materials following LC policy and standards. Instruction sheets contain step-by-step procedures. Guidelines help you formulate the classification portion of the LC call number. Use this manual with the 'Subject cataloging manual: shelflisting', which shows you how to formulate the unique Cutter portion of the call number

    Abstract
This companion to the author's 'Descriptive cataloging' provides both the principles and the application of subject cataloging. For most libraries, there are two distinct features of this practice: subject classification and apllication of subject headings. This workbook presents a wide range of examples, including print and nonprint formats, as well as exercises for MARC tagging practice. The explanation of the rules applied are clear, with specific reference to the manual used. The section about subject cataloging strategies is excellent for all catalogers. Highly recommended for all libraries using either Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress classification, as well as the Library of Congress Subject Headings
