    Abstract
Traces the development of distance education programmes which has been fuelled by the non-traditional student, the growth of the Internet, television and videoconferencing. Key elements of library services for distance education are: reference services, a portfolio of nearby libraries or other resources, document delivery, provision of a broad suite of electronic databases, electronic journals, a database of subject specialists, and use of electronic resources on the WWW

    Abstract
Describes the Phoenix Metro Image Project which is the linking by 3 major institutions in a major metropolitan area of 3 different OPACs over the Internet. The institutions are Arizona State Univ., the Maricopa County Community Colleges District and Phoenix Public Library, and the project is designed to be a model for other automated library consortia

    Abstract
The Internet provides access to hundreds of library and information systems around the world. However, online library systems and databases exhibit a variety of limitations which are often not apparent to the user. Briefly discusses the following: scope and content of databases; limitations for locally loaded periodical indexes; dissimilar search protocols; unfamiliar log- in, log-off and terminal requirements; online help and ease of use; and passwording

    Abstract
Discusses the factors to be considered in deciding how many public access terminals and workstations should be installed for library online catalogues. Considers building size and layout as significant factors in this matter and notes that the introduction of new physical facilities usually requires extra terminals. Outlines the effect of increasing the resources available through the system, providing peripheral equipment (e.g. printers), and providing a graphical user interface. Notes the impact of remote users when the system is networked and the value of providing direct plug-in network connections to institutional networks for users who bring in their own laptops. Highlights questions of system capacity and communications as factors to be considered also
