"Die Klassifikationen, die in deutschen Öffentlichen Bibliotheken mit Abstand am häufigsten angewandt werden, sind - im Osten - die »Klassifikation für Allgemeinbibliotheken KAB«, im Westen die »Allgemeine Systematik für Öffentliche Bibliotheken ASB«. Doch die Zukunft beider Erschließungssysteme liegt keineswegs im Dunkeln, wie die Frage »Quo vadis?« anzudeuten scheint, und insofern hätte Kathrin Lehmann (EDBI) den Titel ihrer Informationsveranstaltung weniger in einer Petrus-Legende als vielmehr einer einschlägigen Whisky-Werbung suchen sollen, etwa »Born in the Fifties, still goin' strong«. Als Beleg dafür mag dienen, dass die Druckausgaben der beiden in den 90er-Jahren umfassend revidierten Klassifikationen praktisch vergriffen sind. Oder dass man beim EDBI nach wie vor einen »Beratungsdienst KAB« (www.dbi-berlin.de/dbi_ber/kab/kab00.htm) beziehungsweise »ASB« (www.dbi-berlin. de/dbi_ber/asb/asb00.htm) samt der einschlägigen Anwender-Mailingliste »asbforum« antrifft. Die Referentin (klehmann@dbi-ber lin.de), die bereits für die erwähnten Revisionen federführend engagiert war, wird dies mit Unterstützung von Partnerinstitutionen auch auf absehbare Zeit bleiben, selbst nachdem Ende des Jahres offiziell der Vorhang fürs EDBI fällt. Liegen doch die Rechte für die ASB beim BIB, für die KAB beim DBV Für eine in Vorbereitung befindliche Neuausgabe der ASB - vermutlich in zwei Jahren auf CD-Rom - stehen bereits zahlreiche Änderungen und Ergänzungen an. Und die Überarbeitung der KAB läuft auf »Hochtouren«, siehe BuB Heft 3/2002, Seite 136 folgende. Zukunftsmusik ist dagegen noch eine »parallele Klassifikationspflege«, möglicherweise einschließlich der Duisburger Systematik (SSD) und am besten an zentraler Stelle fest verankert sowie kontinuierlich und mit jährlichen Updates. Das Ziel einer einheitlichen Systematik sei zwar unrealistisch, aber immerhin, so Lehmann: »Es geht aufeinander zu.«"
