- Abstract
- Der bis 1999 vom Deutschen Bibliotheksinstitut mit dem Online-System IBAS angebotene Retro-VK liegt jetzt auf fünf CD-ROMs mit dem System Allegro (alcarta) vor. Damit wird die Übernahme von Titelaufnahmen im MAB2-Format zum Zwecke der Konversion weiterhin ermöglicht. Lokaldaten sind nicht enthalten. Ausgangsmaterial sind die im damaligen DBI zusammengeführten Titelaufnahmen bis Erwerbungsjahr 1996 der zu diesem Zeitpunkt sieben Verbundsysteme. Der Hauptteil beinhaltet ca. 14 Mio. Datensätze, das Supplement ca. 1,1 Mio. Datensätze. Der Preis für bisherige RETRO-VK-Nutzer sowie Bibliotheken, die an Verbundsystemen teilnehmen bzw. in öffentlicher Trägerschaft sind, beträgt EUR 200,-. Der Preis für Interessenten außerhalb dieses Kreises beträgt EUR 1500,-.

- Abstract
- Faced with the need to undertake the retrospective conversion of the library catalogue, at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture Library, Ibadan, Nigeria, 2 possible approaches to conversion were indentified: use of a previously compiled accession list of materials available in the manual system; and scanning of all books and periodicals to create entries from source. Having chosen the first option, the next stage was to select the best way to proceed from several options. In the case of books and book chapters, the options were: use of MARC tapes; use of CD-ROM databases; downloading from online databases; and creation of original cataloguing and indexing entries. The first option was considered to cumbersome; the second was too expensive; the third was not viable with present telecommunications and INMARSAT satellite online access. In the case of periodical articles and conference proceedings, the options were: use of abstracting and indexing services on floppy discs; and locally generated indexing. The first option was not considered viable due to the scattering of entries over many CD-ROM databases; the second was rules out because of lack of coverage and problems in copying records in ASCII format

- Abstract
- While software originating from the domain of digital forensics has demonstrated utility for data recovery from contemporary storage media, it is not as effective for working with floppy disks from the 1980s. This paper details alternative strategies for recovering data from floppy disks employing software originating from the software preservation and retro-computing communities. Imaging hardware, storage formats and processing workflows are also discussed.

- Abstract
- Der ungehinderte Zugang zu elektronischen, wissenschaftlich relevanten Publikationen von jedem Ort und zu jeder Zeit aus spielt in der digitalen Informationsgesellschaft eine immer bedeutendere Rolle. Angebote wie von "JSTOR" oder "DigiZeitschriften" verdeutlichen, dass der Anteil an digitalen wissenschaftlichen Artikeln, im Gegensatz zu den ausschließlich gedruckt vorliegenden Zeitschriften, auf dem Vormarsch ist und von der wissenschaftlichen Community unabhängig davon, ob der Zugang kostenfrei oder kostenpflichtig ist, als Arbeitsinstrument mehr und mehr eingesetzt wird. Auch die Idee, digitalen Content durch Retro-Digitalisierung zu erzeugen, ist in diesem Zusammenhang nicht neu. Zahlreicher (retro-)digitaler Content, entstanden vor allem in durch die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) geförderten Projekten, ist im Internet frei verfügbar. Das Projekt "Zentrales Verzeichnis Digitalisierter Drucke (ZVDD)"' baut derzeit ein zentrales Nachweisportal zu bereits digitalisierten Bibliotheksmaterialien auf, um den heterogen verteilten, digitalen Content über eine einheitliche Oberfläche durchsuchbar zu machen. Die Herangehensweise, Literatur in einem Fachgebiet weltweit zu digitalisieren und der Fach-Community bereitzustellen, ist in diesem Zusammenhang ebenfalls nicht neu. So wurde vor allem in den USA bereits vor einigen Jahren diskutiert, ob und wie es möglich ist, den kompletten Bestand an wissenschaftlich relevanten Publikationen in der Mathematik zu digitalisieren. Auch in Europa gibt es Initiativen und Entwicklungen (z.B. "DML-EU"`), mathematische Zeitschriften zu retrodigitalisieren.

- Abstract
- Die Retrokonversion des nach den Preußischen Instruktionen (PI) geführten alten Zettelkatalogs (1,8 Mio. Titelkarten) der Universitätsbibliothek der TU Berlin wurde weitgehend automatisiert durchgeführt: Scannen der Titelkarten, OCR-Bearbeitung und Abgleich am Retro-VK. Die Besonderheit bei diesem Projekt war die manuelle Bearbeitung der gescannten Titelkarten (Images), die bibliotheksintern vor der OCR-Bearbeitung durchgeführt wurde. Diese Imagebearbeitung war die entscheidende Voraussetzung dafür, dass die Nachweise aus dem Zettelkatalog später in den regulären OPAC eingespielt werden konnten. Bei der Imagebearbeitung wurden die Titelkarten klassifiziert sowie die besitzende Zweigstelle und die Signatur erfasst. Über die Klassifizierung wurden die OCR-Bearbeitung und die späteren Nacharbeiten im OPAC gesteuert. Die Zweigstelle und die Signatur waren für den Dublettenabgleich mit den im OPAC bereits enthaltenen Nachweisen erforderlich. Das Projekt konnte im Januar 2005 erfolgreich abgeschlossen werden.

- Reports on a project to retro-convert the card catalogue for cartographic materials in the Royal Library in Copenhagen, covering the years 1996-1998. Describes the aims of the project, firstly to incorporate the records for these materials in the Library's bibliographic database REX, and secondly to create the 5-year cumulation of the Danish National Bibliography, Cartographic Materials, 1986-1990, from this database. Discusses the preparations made for the input of the records, the training of additional staff to do the keyboarding, and the MARC standard used. Detaiuls the various steps of the project leading to the eventual publication of the bibliography by the Library itself. Places the project in the context of the Royal Library's plan to convert all catalogues to machine readable form by 2000, and notes that future retrospective conversion will be by scanning

- - AG Kooperative Neukatalogisierung Das von der AG Kooperative Neukatalogisierung erarbeitete Papier "Erfassung von E-Books und Digitalisaten" wurde der Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Verbundsysteme auf ihrer Sitzung vorgelegt. Durch die vermehrte Veröffentlichung von E-Books entstand Handlungsbedarf, Praxisanweisungen für alle Verbünde, auch im Hinblick auf RDA, zu schaffen. Die Festlegung sieht Vereinbarungen für begrenzt erscheinende elektronische Ressourcen vor. Sie wird dem Standardisierungsausschuss in seiner nächsten Sitzung im Juni zur Abstimmung vorliegen. - AG Datenanreicherung Die letzte Sitzung der Arbeitsgruppe diente schwerpunktmäßig dem Informationsaustausch unter den Verbünden zum aktuellen Stand der Kataloganreicherung. In der 19. Kalenderwoche 2008 werden die Kataloganreicherungsdaten der Reihe A zur Verfügung stehen und der schon vorhandene Link in den Titelaufnahmen nutzbar werden. Alle Verbundbibliotheken sind daran interessiert, möglichst schnell viele Daten zu erhalten und wollen im Laufe des Jahres 2008 die Daten zur Kataloganreicherung innerhalb der Verbünde zur Verfügung stellen, wobei die etablierten Verfahrensweisen beim Datentausch innerhalb der Verbünde auch für diesen Zweck abgestimmt und angewendet werden sollen. Den Sondersammelgebietsbibliotheken kommt hierbei eine besondere Bedeutung zu, insbesondere bei der Retro-Digitalisierung und der Daten von ausländischen Publikationen. Eine Abstimmung mit der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek wird hierbei gewünscht.

- Abstract
- Frances Henne (1906-85) was the leader in the development of school library standards during her career as a teacher, librarian, and library educator. She was the driving force behind the publication of the 1945, 1960, and 1969 national standards for school libraries. Her imprint is evident in the research and philosophical foundations for the 1975, 1988, and 1998 national standards.
