    Abstract
In October of 1999 there was a discussion on AUTOCAT (an e-list for cataloguers) of the advantages and disadvantages of classifying Internet resources catalogued locally, which grew to include a discussion of cataloguing electronic resources generally. This article reviews the background of applying bibliographic description techniques to electronic resources, and summarizes the AUTOCAT discussion. The exchange of opinion confirms that while some librarians see classification as primarily a method of assigning a shelf location for a physical item, many others see classification as a valid subject approach for all the materials either in the library's collection or available to the library's patrons through the library catalogue

    Abstract
Cataloguers place a high importance on the ready availability of current and accurate local procedures. By using WWW technology, these procedures may be easily updated, made searchable via powerful search engines and capable of linking directly to related resources. Cataloguers' skills in organization and classification provide a good foundation for learning the basics of Web site creation. Presents some guidelines for dealing with the logical organization of procedures on the WWW, along with the use of appropriate language of consistent design

    Abstract
At the core of cataloguing Internet resources are the cataloguing values of description and access. Shows how cataloguing Internet resources can be folded into the duties of a cataloguing department. Reviews practical aspects of their cataloguing. Covers: obtaining support from library's administration for initiating the activity, outlining responsibilities, training and workflow issues, guides to cataloguing, initial steps and choices, creating the bibliographic description, choosing access points, subject analysis and classification, and electronic location and access

    Abstract
The CATRIONA Feasibility Study, funded by BLRDD and run at Strathclyde Univeristy in Scotland, was a 6 month study which ended in Jan 95. Outlines the context in which the study arose and details its aims which were in 2 main areas: to investigate the technical, organizational and financial requirements for the develoment of applications programs and procedures to enable the cataloguing, classification and retrieval of documents and other resources over networks; and to explore the feasibility of a project, led by a library systems supplier, to develop such applications and integrate them into library housekeeping systems and OPAC interfaces. Reports on the main results of the study and possible future developments

    Abstract
State of the art review exploring the problem of bibliographic citations to resources that exist only in electronic form where the cited items may no longer be locatable at the URL indicated. Notes that the Internet is currently in a state of near chaos in terms of access and organization, while searching, usually performed with word based search engines, is generally not adequate for the needs of most users. Reviews strategies used by librarians for cataloguing and classifying information resources on the Internet. Techniques used include: automatic classification projects and classified subject trees, like the BUBL Subject Tree; CyberDewey, and the WWW Virtual Library. Considers OPAC like library catalogues such as the UK's CATRIONA Project and OCLC's InterCat. Explores retrieval tools used with concept analysis and other non traditional proposals, which include some library expertise, usually the use of one of the major library classifications. Pays particular attention to the UDC
