- "Die Deutsche Bibliothek hat die 3. RSWK-Ergänzungslieferung zur 3. Auflage der »Regeln für den Schlagwortkatalog (RSWK)« veröffentlicht - zum ersten Mal auch in elektronischer Form: www.ddb.de/produkte/publ elektron.htm <urn: nbn:de:1111-2004072169> http://nbn-resolving.de/urn/resolver.pl?urn=urn:nbn:de:11112004072169. Die Ergänzungslieferung enthält unter anderem Änderungen an § 8,2 (hier wurde die Priorisierung der Individualnamen zu Ungunsten der Allgemeinbegriffe aufgehoben), § 12,8 (Wegfall der Pauschalverweisungen), § 701 (durch eine neue Darstellung der Hinweissätze sind auch die Mundarten betroffen) sowie § 730 (Bauwerke). Nach einem im Sommer 2004 durchgeführten öffentlichen Stellungnahmeverfahren, für das die vorgesehenen Entwürfe auf dem FTP-Server Der Deutschen Bibliothek zur Verfügung standen, und einer Beratung in der Expertengruppe RSWK/SWD hat der Standardisierungsausschuss die 3. RSWK-Ergänzungslieferung mit den genannten Neuregelungen genehmigt. Die Papierausgabe der 3. Die Ergänzungslieferung enthält unter anderem Änderungen an Paragraf 18,3 (hier wurde der Schwerpunkt der Vergabe von Sprachencodes auf Werke bestimmter Wissensgebiete verschoben), Paragraf 405,3 (Ergänzung der als Sachschlagwort zu behandelnden Geschichtskomposita um »Formgeschichte«) sowie diverse redaktionelle Korrekturen (unter anderem Anpassung von Text und Beispielen an Regelwerksänderungen, die in der 3. Ergänzungslieferung 2005 der RSWK veröffentlicht wurden, und Verbesserung von Schreibfehlern). Die Expertengruppe RSWK/ SWD hat die Änderungen an den RSWK auf ihrer Sitzung am 10. Mai 2006 beschlossen und anschließend dem Standardisierungsausschuss vorgelegt. Der Standardisierungsausschuss hat in einem Umlaufverfahren im Februar 2007 einer Veröffentlichung und Inkraftsetzung zugestimmt. Die Papierausgabe der 4. Ergänzungslieferung 2007 zur 3. - Abstract
- In subject cataloging of audiovisual materials generic terms like 'documentary' or 'absolute film' facilitate the work of users and librarians. On the concrete level the study shows 4 ways to make a list of generic terms for the application in general libraries. The heuristic function of the study is to offer methods towards the solution of problems in the field of subject cataloguing of non-book materials. (1) The formal subject heading in library science corresponds to generic terms; Anglo-American and German rules for subject cataloging, however, provide no list that is directly applicable. (2) The terminology of institutions administering many audiovisual documents has been examined; general libraries have to find a common denominator with medium depth of classification and balanced representation of fiction and nonfiction terms. (3) From encyclopedic definitions of generic terms 8 dimensions have been extracted characterizing the terms in question individually. (4) The contribution of communication science has been discussed explaining a research project

- Abstract
- The German subject headings authority file - SWD - provides a terminologically controlled vocabulary, covering all fields of knowledge. The subject headings are determined by the German Rules for the Subject Catalogue. The authority file is produced and updated daily by participating libraries from around Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Over the last twenty years, it grew to an online-accessible database with about 550.000 headings. They are linked to other thesauri, also to French and English equivalents and with notations of the Dewey Decimal Classification. Thus, it allows multilingual access and searching in dispersed, heterogeneously indexed catalogues. The vocabulary is not only used for cataloguing library materials, but also web-resources and objects in archives and museums.
