Dafür aber digitale Lexika; die jedes Jahr immer Verblüffenderes leisten. Die gerade erschienene Neuausgabe des Brockhaus Multimedial 2004 ist insbesondere Schülern und Studenten zu empfehlen, bietet sie doch neben viel Multimedia eine gigantische Informationsfülle. Wir testeten die Premium Ausgabe des "Brockhaus multimedial 2004" (99,95 Euro, 8 CDs oder 1 DVD, es gibt allerdings auch eine abgespeckte Version für 49,95 Euro). Sie entspricht dem 15-bändigen. gedruckten Werk, bietet aber noch etliche Extras: Wer einen Überblick über ein bestimmtes Wissensgebiet haben möchte und die knappe, stichwortartige Lexikonsprache nicht mag, kann im Themenportal die verschiedensten multimedial angereicherten Aufsätze abrufen. Integriert ist das englische Duden Oxford Kompaktwörterbuch und ein Fremdwörterbuch, das einfach durch Druck der rechten Maustaste aktiviert werden kann. Der elektronische Atlas enthält zwei Millionen Einträge und kann Höhenverläufe anzeigen. Für Referate lassen sich praktische Themenmappen anlegen, mit denen Material gesammelt werden kann. Und es gibt enorm viel Multimedia-Schnickschnack: Doch nicht alles ist positiv: Um Schwarzkopien zu verhindern, wurde nämlich ein Sicherheitsverfahren implementiert, das zum Absturz des Programms führte. Zwar klappte nach Manipulationen am Windows 98-Rechner der Start, doch richtig rund lief das Programm nicht. Auch wenn solche Probleme vielleicht nur bei einigen Rechnern auftreten mögen, sollten sie doch schleunigst abgestellt werden."

- Abstract
- Semantische Netze unterstützen den Suchvorgang im Information Retrieval. Sie bestehen aus relationierten Begriffen und helfen dem Nutzer das richtige Vokabular zur Fragebildung zu finden. Eine leicht und intuitiv erfassbare Darstellung und eine interaktive Bedienungsmöglichkeit optimieren den Suchprozess mit der Begriffsstruktur. Als Interaktionsform bietet sich Hy-pertext mit dem etablierte Point- und Klickverfahren an. Eine Visualisierung zur Unterstützung kognitiver Fähigkeiten kann durch eine Darstellung der Informationen mit Hilfe von Punkten und Linien erfolgen. Vorgestellt wer-den die Anwendungsbeispiele Wissensnetz im Brockhaus multimedial, WordSurfer der Firma BiblioMondo, SpiderSearch der Firma BOND und Topic Maps Visualization in dandelon.com und im Portal Informationswis-senschaft der Firma AGI - Information Management Consultants.

- "Die "Brockhaus Enzyklopädie" wird nun doch nicht ab Mitte April frei ins Internet gestellt. Der Start des Internetangebots "Brockhaus online" werde verschoben, aber nicht aufgegeben, so Brockhaus-Sprecher Klaus Holoch. Eine Neu-Auflage der Brockhaus-Enzyklopädie in gedruckter Form werde nicht mehr ausgeschlossen. Brockhaus hatte im Februar eine radikale Änderung der Geschäftsstrategie angekündigt. Dabei sollte die komplette, multimedial aufgerüstete "Brockhaus Enzyklopädie" frei ins Internet gestellt werden. Nach der Ankündigung, der 21. Auflage der Enzyklopädie keine weitere folgen zu lassen, sei die Nachfrage nach der Buch-Ausgabe nach oben geschnellt, so Holoch."
