    Abstract
Online discussion forums have become a popular medium for users to discuss with and seek information from other users having similar interests. A typical discussion thread consists of a sequence of posts posted by multiple users. Each post in a thread serves a different purpose providing different types of information and, thus, may not be equally useful for all applications. Identifying the purpose and nature of each post in a discussion thread is thus an interesting research problem as it can help in improving information extraction and intelligent assistance techniques. We study the problem of classifying a given post as per its purpose in the discussion thread and employ features based on the post's content, structure of the thread, behavior of the participating users, and sentiment analysis of the post's content. We evaluate our approach on two forum data sets belonging to different genres and achieve strong classification performance. We also analyze the relative importance of different features used for the post classification task. Next, as a use case, we describe how the post class information can help in thread retrieval by incorporating this information in a state-of-the-art thread retrieval model.

    Abstract
This paper reports the results of an empirical study into gender differences in collaborative Web searching, conducted in a grade-six classroom of a Canadian elementary school. Searches undertaken by 16 same-sex groups of two or three students (six of boys, ten of girls) for information to support a class assignment were captured on videotape. The multiple search sessions took place over several weeks. An analysis of the search sessions reveals that the groups of boys formulated queries comprising fewer keywords than the groups of girls, the boys spent less time on individual pages than the girls, the boys clicked more hypertext links per minute than the girls, and in general were more active while online. The study overall demonstrates academic, affective and behavior differences between grade-six boys and girls working in same-sex groups on a Web-based class project.

    Abstract
Considers whether one of the characteristics of electronic communication, such as the Internet or electronic mail, the impossibility of gaining specific information about the person being talked to (age, sex, etc.) could lead to a more egalitarian method of communication. Concludes that the Internet is not Utopian, particularly for women, and is still the domain of middle class, highly educated, white males, between ages of 18 and 30

    Abstract
Proposes an approach to defining units of analysis for Internet communication research. Defines the term Internet computer mediated communication, identifying the characteristics of Internet communication. Develops a set of definitions: media space, media class, media object and media instance, as units of analysis for Internet communication studies. Illustrates these units of analysis with some examples

    Abstract
This paper proposes an approach for managing vocabulary for reference databases on the Web. The approach is directed at domain specific databases in which much of the referenced material remains in non-digital form. A combination of interactive and manual processes are outlined along with a proposed implementation approach. For this limited class of databases, it is suggested that the approach can significantly improve vocabulary management with relatively low costs in manual effort.

    Abstract
In a reassessment of Internet usage for reference purposes, data are tabulated from a 1995 class in advanced electronic searching and compared with a previous study from fall 1994. The current data are from 195 searches initiated by students assigned questions on a series of topics: science and technology, medicine and biology, social sciences, arts and humanities, current events, business, legal and government information. The Internet was selected as a viable source 58% of the time and determined to be successful in 86% of theses searches. Although both the selection and success rates differ with the topic being searched and the individual searchers, there is a considerable increase in both Internet selection and success rates from those of the previous year

    Abstract
This article estimates the first constant quality price index for Internet domain names. The suggested index provides a benchmark for domain name traders and investors looking for information on price trends, historical returns, and the fundamental risk of Internet domain names. The index increases transparency in the market for this newly emerged asset class. A cointegration analysis shows that domain registrations and resale prices form a long-run equilibrium and indicates supply constraints in domain space. This study explores a large data set of domain sales spanning the years 2006 to 2013. Differences in the quality of individual domain names are controlled for in hedonic repeat sales regressions.
