    Abstract
    Der Artikel beleuchtet den einzigartigen Beitrag von Hanns Wilhelm Eppelsheimer (1890-1972) zur Theorie und Praxis der facettierten klassifikatorischen Sacherschließung. Hauptpunkt seiner Methode ist die klare Trennung zwischen den klassifikatorisch abgebildeten, disziplin-spezifischen Begriffsbeziehungen einerseits und den durch sog. "Schlüssel" abgebildeten, dokument-spezifischen Behandlungsaspekten andererseits.

    Abstract
    Prof. Dr. Hans Wilhelm Eppelsheimer (1890-1972) gehört zu den großen Pionieren des Bibliotheks- und Dokumentationswesens in Deutschland. Er war von 1951 bis 1955 Erster Vorsitzender der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Dokumentation (DGD), bis 1959 Direktor der Deutschen Bibliothek in Frankfurt am Main, an deren Gründung er maßgeblich mitwirkte, und u. a. auch Mitglied der Deutschen UNESCO-Kommission. Ab dem Sommersemester 1946 hielt er einführende Vorlesungen über Bibliothekswesen und Dokumentation, Versuche, die Informationskompetenz, wie wir heute sagen würden, der Studierenden aller Fakultäten zu fördern. Im Nachlass in der Frankfurter Universitätsbibliothek Johann Christian Senckenberg befinden sich die bisher vermutlich unveröffentlichten handschriftlichen Manuskripte seiner Vorlesungen. Die IWP druckt einige Auszüge daraus. Wenngleich sich einige Prognosen, etwa die über die Länge der im Jahr 2040 in Yale benötigten Regalkilometer zur Aufbewahrung der Bücher, durch die technische Entwicklung nicht bewahrheiten dürften, sind andere Einschätzungen und Überlegungen auch heute noch zumindest anregend und interessant zu lesen. Die Texte wurden von Marlies Ockenfeld ausgewählt und transkribiert, unterstützt von Carmen Kleemann.
