    Abstract
OPACs in an increasing number of libraries are now available using the Joint Academic Network (JANET). Access has tended to be obstructed, for the casual user, by the lengthy JANET addressing codes and varying log-on procedures required by each library system. Discribed how a communications and menu package on an IBK/PC can be used so that by merely pressing cursor control, return and escape keays, any user can gain access to any one of over 40 OPACs linked to JANET

    Abstract
In 1987 the Austrian National Library and the University Libraries began to implement the Online Library Network System BIBOS which will offer also an on-line public access catalogue (OPAC). After discussing the basic design of the forthcoming OPAC, requirements of its features (access, search functions, output, interface to circulation control) are formulated.

    Abstract
In Northern Germany, the State of Lower Saxony has developed an online library network, the center of which is the Library Computer Center at the State and University Library in Goettingen. This center offers the following data bases online: the union catalogue of serials in Lower Saxony libraries; the union catalogue of books since 1977 in these libraries; the IBZ and IBR; the last two years of the Deutsche Bibliographie, the British National Bibliography and, within the next few months, the titles offered by the Library of Congress (all in full service); then all new titles in this data base will be compatible to MARC II.

    Abstract
The degree of variability in the percentage of subject searching in an online public access catalog (OPAC) among branch libraries of one university was studied. A full semester's worth of transactions was analyzed, not sampled. The time units used were hour of the day, day of the week, and week of the semester. The findings show that subject searching varies from a low of 22% to a high of 74% over the hours of a day. Variability for the days of the week ranged from 17% to 64%, and for the weeks of the semester variability ranged from 12% to 70%. Valuable management information on the utilization of the OPAC within each brach library and among all the branch libraries is provided through numerous charts and graphs.
