    Abstract
DOBIS/LIBIS is one of the first commercially available software packages for library automation. Focuses on the development of the software following the issues of version 1.4 in 1985 up to version 3.1. Discusses public access; acquisitions; cataloguing; circulation; support from Extended Library Access Solutions (ELiAS); and future developments in DOBIS/LIBIS

    Abstract
Describes microcomputer based software and CD-ROM products which enable libraries to automate their cataloguing functions on microcomputer. Presents features of a few sample cataloguing products. Claims that this information should be helpful to cataloguing managers in their selection of such software. Discusses the potential implications for libraries in developing countries

    Abstract
The article provides background information on the processing of Arabic materials using a combination of local and modified cataloging rules and the creation of the Arabic card catalog at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals Library (KFUPM). It also gives a brief history of KFUPM library automation and then presents various options considered for developing the Arabized version of DOBIS/LIBIS. Finally, the functions and features of the Arabic online catalog are described

    Abstract
Existing subject headings lists and classification schemes are inadequate to deal with the very specific and rapidly developing subjects of theses and dissertations, and as a result libraries find it costly and time consuming to perform original and full cataloguing of these materials. Many libraries have been forced to improvise on descriptive and subject cataloguing to reduce the processing cost. Describes the improvisations of the Library of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dharan, Saudi Arabia, in cataloguing local and foreign theses and dissertations

    Abstract
MARC, variantly known as LCMARC and USMARC, has been adopted as a bibliographic record exchange format by libraries the world over. To accomodate the unique requirements of automated systems, geographic regions, and scripts, the format has been modified to various degrees. There are also extensions to MARC which consist of additional content designations: fields, subfields, indicator values, and characters. While the USMARC records will fit into the extended format, the extended format's information will not fit into pure USMARC. DMARC (DOBIS MARC) is one of the extended formats of USMARC. Describes the structure of the DMARC format including content designation. EBCDIC, the internal processing of DOBIS and the support of Arabic text prepared by King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). Discusses USMARC format integration and its impact on DOBIS/LIBIS
