    Abstract
Report on the conference on Information Authority and user knowledge held in Boras Apr 93 and arranged by Gothenburg University's Centre for Library and Information Science and Studies and Boras Library High School. The main speaker, Patrick Wilson, spoke on consequences of information overload and rapid conceptual change. Johan Olaisen's talk on 'toward a theory of clarified subjectivity' started like Wilson's with the problem that users of information systems drown in trivialities. Lena Olsson's dealt with library work in practice and commented on the connection between cognitive authority and professional status of librarians. Discussions centered on the definition of information authority, and on overload as the driving force in IF development

    Abstract
Comments on Statens Bibliotekstjeneste's 1993 report on subject data in research libraries. Despite the failure in the 70s to create a common classification system using notation, the report recommends just such a system but using verbal expressions. It assumes that subject indexing problems can be solved by reusing other libraries' key words and that user groups are homogeneous and able to use the systems thus leaving libraries as professionals intermediaries without responsibility. Uses the experiences of the author's library, the Environmental Library, which itself indexes all material, and gives 6 examples of how other institutions index the same publications differently, to show that the simple recycling system which the report recommends cannot be used there. Rather than spend recources on developing electronic catalogues, as the report recommends, funds should be used to help research libraries construct systems targeting their specific user group

    Abstract
The 1992 IFLA Study Group issued its report functional requirements for bibliographic records in mid 96. The investigation's method was based on the entity/relation analysis technique. The 1st step in this model is identification of entities, and for each entity a set of attributes. Finally the relations between the entities are analyzed, and evaluation of the relevance of attributes and relations connected with user tasks is carried out. With these analyses the report recommended basic functional requirements for national bibliographic records. The matrix of attributes, relations and user tasks provides a useful tool for determining the cataloguing level

    Abstract
The cultural minister's speech to Danish Research Library Association'a annual meeting. The information society brings opportunities for citizens to take responsibility, but also gives rise to new power centres. We must take political decisions that favour equal access, using the strategy outlined in government reports. The Committee on Libraries in the Info-society will evaluate their role as centres for promotion of knowledge, culture and citizenship, the differing roles of public, central and research libraries, examine user charges and copyright. The research libraries have seen growth in lending and service improvement due to use of information technology. Their desire to become advanced multimedia workshops will necessitate large government investments. A 3 million kroner grant will be used to analyze the future need for computer investment in the cultural ministerial research libraries. The ministry is setting up 'Kulturnet Danmark' to develop cooperation between cultural institutions
