    Abstract
    Vorgestellt wird die Konstruktion eines thematisch geordneten Thesaurus auf Basis der Sachschlagwörter der Gemeinsamen Normdatei (GND) unter Nutzung der darin enthaltenen DDC-Notationen. Oberste Ordnungsebene dieses Thesaurus werden die DDC-Sachgruppen der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek. Die Konstruktion des Thesaurus erfolgt regelbasiert unter der Nutzung von Linked Data Prinzipien in einem SPARQL Prozessor. Der Thesaurus dient der automatisierten Gewinnung von Metadaten aus wissenschaftlichen Publikationen mittels eines computerlinguistischen Extraktors. Hierzu werden digitale Volltexte verarbeitet. Dieser ermittelt die gefundenen Schlagwörter über Vergleich der Zeichenfolgen Benennungen im Thesaurus, ordnet die Treffer nach Relevanz im Text und gibt die zugeordne-ten Sachgruppen rangordnend zurück. Die grundlegende Annahme dabei ist, dass die gesuchte Sachgruppe unter den oberen Rängen zurückgegeben wird. In einem dreistufigen Verfahren wird die Leistungsfähigkeit des Verfahrens validiert. Hierzu wird zunächst anhand von Metadaten und Erkenntnissen einer Kurzautopsie ein Goldstandard aus Dokumenten erstellt, die im Online-Katalog der DNB abrufbar sind. Die Dokumente vertei-len sich über 14 der Sachgruppen mit einer Losgröße von jeweils 50 Dokumenten. Sämtliche Dokumente werden mit dem Extraktor erschlossen und die Ergebnisse der Kategorisierung do-kumentiert. Schließlich wird die sich daraus ergebende Retrievalleistung sowohl für eine harte (binäre) Kategorisierung als auch eine rangordnende Rückgabe der Sachgruppen beurteilt.

    Die DNB-CD retro 2 enthält alle in Deutschland erschienenen Publikationen der Bibliographienjahrgänge 1972 bis 1985 (ca. 1,2 Millionen Datensätze). Es handelt sich um Monographien, Zeitschriften, Karten und Hochschulschriften, die als Beleg- oder Pflichtexemplare bei der Deutschen Bibliothek Frankfurt am Main eingegangen sind. Nicht enthalten sind Germanica und Übersetzungen deutschsprachiger Werke. Als Suchkategorien stehen u.a. Autor, Stichwort, Titel oder Reihe zur Verfügung, die miteinander verknüpft werden können. Die sachliche Recherche ist über die Sachgruppen der DNB möglich. Eine Konkordanz der verschiedenen Sachgruppen ist direkt in den Online-Hilfetexte enthalten

    Abstract
    A summary of brain theory is given so far as it is contained within the framework of Localization Theory. Difficulties of this "conventional theory" are traced back to a specific deficiency: there is no way to express relations between active cells (as for instance their representing parts of the same object). A new theory is proposed to cure this deficiency. It introduces a new kind of dynamical control, termed synaptic modulation, according to which synapses switch between a conducting and a non- conducting state. The dynamics of this variable is controlled on a fast time scale by correlations in the temporal fine structure of cellular signals. Furthermore, conventional synaptic plasticity is replaced by a refined version. Synaptic modulation and plasticity form the basis for short-term and long-term memory, respectively. Signal correlations, shaped by the variable network, express structure and relationships within objects. In particular, the figure-ground problem may be solved in this way. Synaptic modulation introduces exibility into cerebral networks which is necessary to solve the invariance problem. Since momentarily useless connections are deactivated, interference between di erent memory traces can be reduced, and memory capacity increased, in comparison with conventional associative memory

    "Der für 1. Februar 2006 im Rahmen der Dewey-Wanderausstellung in Linz angekündigte Workshop fand größeres Interesse, als erwartet, aber im schönen Festsaal der Oberösterreichischen Landesbibliothek wurde (durch ausreichende Sesselvermehrung) gut improvisiert. Die Themenwahl fiel auf die "Vergabe von DDC-Sachgruppen in den deutschsprachigen Nationalbibliografien" und bot einen geeigneten Einstieg in die Nutzung der DDC 22 Deutsch. Seit der Vergabe dieser Sachgruppen bieten einige Verbünde bereits Current Awareness mittels DDC an: so etwa der "Alerting-Dienst" im BSZ, Baden-Württemberg oder der "Profildienst für Fachreferenten/-innen" im GBV, der diesen Service, beispielsweise zur Erleichterung der Vorakzession, auch Bibliotheken außerhalb des eigenen Verbundes gegen geringes Entgelt zur Verfügung stellt. Weiters hat die ZDB-Redaktion Mitte 2005 Vorkehrungen für die Erfassung von DDC-Notationen und SWD-Deskriptoren getroffen, damit fachbezogene Ausschnitte abgefragt werden können. Der Anstoß dafür kam seitens der Virtuellen Fachbibliotheken (ViFa) und Sondersammelgebietsbibliotheken (SSG) Deutschlands. Die VÖB-KofSE nimmt für Ihre nächste Fortbildungsveranstaltung eine besondere, inhaltlich passende Gelegenheit wahr und kooperiert mit den Organisatoren der heuer in Wien stattfindenden internationalen ISKOKonferenz der International Society of Knowledge Organization sowie der zeitgleich angesetzten 10. Tagung der Deutschen Sektion der Internationalen Gesellschaft für Wissensorganisation. - Eine ganze Reihe hochrangiger Fachwissenschaftler/-innen und Leiter/-innen bibliothekarischer "Anwendungsprojekte von Wissensorganisation", also Trendleader in unserem ureigensten Arbeitsfeld, werden Anfang Juli nach Wien kommen.
