    Abstract
    Das 13. Internationale Symposium für Informationswissenschaft (ISI 2013) führt die alle zwei Jahre stattfindende Tagung des Hochschulverbandes für Informationswissenschaft (HI) fort. Sie stellt stets ein Schaufenster auf die aktuelle Diskussion der Informationswissenschaft als Fachdisziplin zwischen Informatik, Interface Design, Computerlinguistik und benachbarten Sozialwissenschaften dar. Die eingereichten Beiträge stammen vorwiegend von (fast) allen Lehrstühlen und Instituten der Informationswissenschaft in den deutschsprachigen Ländern. In Kooperation mit dem amerikanischen Schwesterverband, der "Association of Information Science and Technology" (ASIS&T), gelang es wieder, neben den herausragenden Keynotes auch weitere internationale Beiträge zu integrieren und auf diese Weise die europäisch-deutschsprachige Informationswissenschaft mit dem internationalen Diskurs zu verbinden. Das Motto der Tagung verweist auf die aktuellen Veränderungen in der Fachdisziplin und in den vorherrschenden Anwendungsfeldern. Wie in vielen Wissenschaften vollzieht sich auch in der Informationswissenschaft ein vielfältiger Paradigmenwechsel, der auf den Wandel zur "digitalen Gesellschaft" reagiert. Neben klassischen Themengebieten wie Information Retrieval, Metadaten, Usability, Portalen, neuen Medientechnologien oder Bibliometrie rücken deshalb Fragen des Informationsverhaltens und der tatsächlichen "Informationspraxis" immer mehr in den Fokus.

    "... unter diesem Motto hat die Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig am 23. März 2004 auf dem Leipziger Kongress für Bibliothek und Information eine Vortragsreihe initiiert. Vorgestellt wurden Projekte, die sich im Spannungsfeld von Standardisierung und Heterogenität der Sacherschließung bewegen. Die Benutzer unserer Bibliotheken und Informationseinrichtungen stehen heute einer Fülle von Informationen gegenüber, die sie aus zahlreichen Katalogen und Fachdatenbanken abfragen können. Diese Recherche kann schnell zeitraubend werden, wenn der Benutzer mit verschiedenen Suchbegriffen und -logiken arbeiten muss, um zur gewünschten Ressource zu gelangen. Ein Schlagwort A kann in jedem der durchsuchten Systeme eine andere Bedeutung annehmen. Homogenität erreicht man klassisch zunächst durch Normierung und Standardisierung. Für die zwei traditionellen Verfahren der inhaltlichen Erschließung - der klassifikatorischen und der verbalen - haben sich in Deutschland verschiedene Standards durchgesetzt. Klassifikatorische Erschließung wird mit ganz unterschiedlichen Systemen betrieben. Verbreitet sind etwa die Regensburger Verbundklassifikation (RVK) oder die Basisklassifikation (BK). Von Spezial- und Facheinrichtungen werden entsprechende Fachklassifikationen eingesetzt. Weltweit am häufigsten angewandt ist die Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), die seit 2003 ins Deutsche übertragen wird. Im Bereich der verbalen Sacherschließung haben sich, vor allem bei den wissenschaftlichen Universalbibliotheken, die Regeln für den Schlagwortkatalog (RSWK) durchgesetzt, durch die zugleich die Schlagwortnormdatei (SWD) kooperativ aufgebaut wurde. Daneben erschließen wiederum viele Spezial- und Facheinrichtungen mit selbst entwickelten Fachthesauri.
    Neben die Pflege der Standards tritt als Herausforderung die Vernetzung der Systeme, um heterogene Dokumentenbestände zu verbinden. »Standardisierung muss von der verbleibenden Heterogenität her gedacht werden«." Diese Aufgaben können nur in Kooperation von Bibliotheken und Informationseinrichtungen gelöst werden. Die vorgestellten Projekte zeigen, wie dies gelingen kann. Sie verfolgen alle das Ziel, Informationen über Inhalte schneller und besser für die Nutzer zur Verfügung zu stellen. Fachliche Recherchen über mehrere Informationsanbieter werden durch die Heterogenität überwindende Suchdienste ermöglicht. Die Einführung der DDC im deutschen Sprachraum steht genau im Kern des Spannungsfeldes. Die DDC stellt durch ihren universalen Charakter nicht nur einen übergreifenden Standard her. Ihre Anwendung ist nur nutzbringend, wenn zugleich die Vernetzung mit den in Deutschland bewährten Klassifikationen und Thesauri erfolgt. Ziel des Projektes DDC Deutsch ist nicht nur eine Übersetzung ins Deutsche, die DDC soll auch in Form elektronischer Dienste zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Dr. Lars Svensson, Deutsche Bibliothek Frankfurt am Main, präsentierte anschaulichdie Möglichkeiten einer intelligenten Navigation über die DDC. Für die Dokumentenbestände Der Deutschen Bibliothek, des Gemeinsamen Bibliotheksverbundes (GBV) und der Niedersächsischen Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen wurde prototypisch ein Webservice realisiert.
    Es wurden immer zwei Klassifikationen aufeinander abgebildet und die jeweiligen Klassen (Notationen) miteinander verknüpft. Friedrich Geißelmann unterstrich die Notwendigkeit weiterer Crosswalks für die integrierte, insbesondere fachübergreifende Suche, wie sie im Internetportal vascoda angeboten wird. Stefan Jakowatz, Informationszentrum Sozialwissenschaften (IZ) Bonn, informierte über die Arbeiten des IZ im Bereich der Heterogenitätsbehandlung. Er stellte die in CARMEN erarbeiteten Crosskonkordanzen im Bereich Thesauri vor. Hier wurden Crosskonkordanzen zwischen der SWD, dem Thesaurus Sozialwissenschaften des IZ und der Schlagwortliste des Deutschen Instituts für Internationale Pädagogische Forschung (DIPF) erstellt. Begriffe aus der Soziologie, Methoden der Sozialforschung, Politikwissenschaft und Bildungsforschung bildeten das Basismaterial. Zusätzlich liegen inzwischen am IZ Verknüpfungen zum Psyndex-Thesaurus und zum Thesaurus der Sociological Abstracts (CSA) vor. Transferkomponenten wurden am IZ Sozialwissenschaften nicht nur durch intellektuell erstellte Crosskonkordanzen, sondern auch mittels quantitativ-statistischer Analysen von Titeldaten geschaffen. Eingesetzt werden diese in der Metasuche der virtuellen Fachbibliothek VibSoz. Dort erfolgt die Suche nach sozialwissenschaftlicher Literatur über die Kernbestände von fünf verschiedenen Bibliotheken und Fachdatenbanken. Die Suchanfragen werden automatisch in die jeweils andere Terminologie übersetzt und führen die Treffer in einer integrierten Liste zusammen. Ähnlich arbeiten die Transfermodule in infoconnex", dem Fachinformationsverbund für Pädagogik, Sozialwissenschaften und Psychologie. Auch hier wird durch die Crosskonkordanzen eine effiziente fachübergreifende Recherche angeboten.

Das vorliegende Werk gliedert sich in zwei Teile. Der erste Abschnitt ist mit »National Libraries« überschrieben, befasst sich jedoch nur mit der Library of Congress und der National Library of Canada. Ihm folgen Artikel über »Libraries around the world«. Dabei fälltjedoch auf, dass diese Studien zwar Bibliotheken in Großbritannien, Australien, Mittel- und Südamerika und selbst Afrika (Botswana) behandeln, nicht jedoch aus Kontinentaleuropa, trotz entsprechender Aktivitäten etwa in den Niederlanden, in Frankreich oder den deutschsprachigen Ländern. Im zweiten Teil kommen Katalogisierungsfachleute aus vier Spezial- und neun akademischen Bibliotheken - ausschließlich aus Nordamerika und Großbritannien - zu Wort. So enthält das Werk in 22 Beispielen Berichte über individuelle und regionale Lösungen. Dabei steht die Frage im Vordergrund, zu welchen Änderungen in der Katalogisierungs- und Sacherschließungspraxis die neuen elektronischen Techniken geführt haben. So streben z.B. die englischen Hochschulbibliotheken ein koordiniertes System an. Mit dem Übergang der British Library zu MARC 21 wird das Katalogsystem in Großbritannien nachhaltig beeinflusst - um nur zwei nahe liegende Beispiele zu nennen. Insgesamt werden drei Aspekte behandelt, die Automatisierungstechnik; die dabei einzusetzende Kooperation und das Outsourcing - nicht nur durch Übernahme von Daten anderer Bibliotheken oder durch Verbundsysteme, vor allem der Library of Congress, sondern auch durch Buchhandelsfirmen wie Blackwell North America Authority Control Service. In der Frage der Sacherschließung befassen sich die Beiträge mit den im amerikanischen Bereich üblichen Klassifikationssystemen, vor allem der Colon Classification, Dewey in seinen beiden Formen oder der Library of Congress Classification. Für die deutsche Diskussion sind diese Aspekte vor allem wegen des Übergangs der Deutschen Bibliothek in ihrer Nationalbibliografie zur DDC von großem Interesse (vgl. Magda Heiner-Freiling: Die DDC in der Deutschen Nationalbibliografie. In Dialog mit Bibliotheken. 15. 2003, Nr. 3, S. 8-13). Doch stellen auch die unterschiedlichen Überlegungen zur alphabetischen Katalogisierung, verbunden mit den da zugehörigen Datenbanken, einen interessanten Beitrag zur augenblicklichen Diskussion in Deutschland dar, da auch hier seit einigen Jahren die Katalogisierung nach RAK und ihre Ablösung eine lebhafte Diskussion ausgelöst hat, wie unter anderem der zusammenfassende Beitrag von Elisabeth Niggemann in: Dialog mit Bibliotheken (15. 2003, Nr. 2, S. 4-8) zeigt. Auch die angloamerikanischen und die mit ihnen zum Beispiel in Mexiko, Südamerika oder Australien verbundenen Bibliotheken - das zeigt das Buch deutlich - diskutieren die Frage der alphabetischen Katalogisierung kontrovers.     Mehrere Beiträge befassen sich mit dem Problem der Relevanz. Erica Cosijn und Theo Bothma (Pretoria) argumentieren, dass für das Benutzerverhalten neben der thematischen Relevanz auch verschiedene andere Relevanzdimensionen eine Rolle spielen und schlagen auf der Basis eines (abermals auf Ingwersen zurückgehenden) erweiterten Relevanzmodells vor, dass IR-Systeme die Möglichkeit zur Abgabe auch kognitiver, situativer und sozio-kognitiver Relevanzurteile bieten sollten. Elaine Toms et al. (Kanada) berichten von einer Studie, in der versucht wurde, die schon vor 30 Jahren von Tefko Saracevic3 erstellten fünf Relevanzdimensionen (kognitiv, motivational, situativ, thematisch und algorithmisch) zu operationalisieren und anhand von Recherchen mit einer Web-Suchmaschine zu untersuchen. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass sich diese fünf Dimensionen in drei Typen vereinen lassen, die Benutzer, System und Aufgabe repräsentieren. Von einer völlig anderen Seite nähern sich Olof Sundin und Jenny Johannison (Boras, Schweden) der Relevanzthematik, indem sie einen kommunikationsorientierten, neo-pragmatistischen Ansatz (nach Richard Rorty) wählen, um Informationssuche und Relevanz zu analysieren, und dabei auch auf das Werk von Michel Foucault zurückgreifen. Weitere interessante Artikel befassen sich mit Bradford's Law of Scattering (Hjørland & Nicolaisen), Information Sharing and Timing (Widén-Wulff & Davenport), Annotations as Context for Searching Documents (Agosti & Ferro), sowie dem Nutzen von neuen Informationsquellen wie Web Links, Newsgroups und Blogs für die sozial- und informationswissenschaftliche Forschung (Thelwall & Wouters). In Summe liegt hier ein interessantes und anspruchsvolles Buch vor - inhaltlich natürlich nicht gerade einheitlich und geschlossen, doch dies darf man bei einem Konferenzband ohnedies nicht erwarten. Manche der abgedruckten Beiträge sind sicher nicht einfach zu lesen, lohnen aber die Mühe. Auch für Praktiker aus Bibliothek und Information ist einiges dabei, sofern sie sich für die wissenschaftliche Basis ihrer Tätigkeit interessieren. Fachlich einschlägige Spezial- und grössere Allgemeinbibliotheken sollten das Werk daher unbedingt führen.
