- Abstract
- Die EURODOC-Datenbank enthält ausführliche und einheitlich strukturierte Beschreibungen von Produkten des Dokument-Managementmarktes (Software-Systeme, -komponenten und Diennstleistungen). Die Benutzeroberfläche ist dreisprachig (dt., engl., franz.). Basis der Produktinformationen ist ein standardisierter Fragebogen, der als Kriterienkatalog für die Suche nach geeigneten Produkten verwendet wird. Daneben ist auch die Volltextsuche möglich. Aufgrund der gefundenen Produkte / Dienstleistungen und des nach Wünschen des Anwenders eingeschränkten Fragenkatalogs können kompakte, übersichtliche Reports ausgedruckt werden. Die Daten können für weitere Auswertungen in Tabellenkalkulationsprogrammen bereitgestellt werden

Nun ist es soweit: Die 7. Aufl. liegt im Netz und bietet wieder aktuelle Zahlen, Daten und Fakten (Stand: 31.12.97). Neu ist die Darstellung des KOBV (Kooperativer Bibliotheksverbund Berlin-Brandenburg) und die Beschreibung der überregionalen Verbunddienstleistung GKD. Auf die Bibliographie ist verzichtet worden

- Die Datenbank historisch wertvoller Landkartenbestände wurde im DBI mit dem Datenbanksystem IBAS aufgebaut und enthält die mit Förderung der DFG erschlossenen Bestände der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz, Nds SUuB Göttingen, BSB München (zusammen 172.300 Titel) Die CD-ROM Version wurde bewußt mit einem einfachen Retrievalprogramm aufgebaut, um den Kostenaufwand auch für den Benutzter gering zu halten, und um generell einen Weg aufzuzeigen, wie mit gerimgem Aufwand eine gut nutzbare Verteilung der zentral in der Verbunddatenbank gespeicherten Daten möglich ist. Die Einträge der Datenbank sind im ISBD-Format aufbereitet und enthalten alle Angaben, die auch in der IBAS-online-Datenbank enthalten sind. Die Einträge liegen also in einer Art Katalogformat vor. Trotzdem kann nach jedem einzelnern Stichwort des Titels und in anderen Kategorien gesucht werden. Es kann auch nach Kategorien gesucht werden, die im gedruckten Katalog eine Nebeneintragung bewirken würden

- Abstract
- EINE PROVOKATION feiert Geburtstag. Vor nunmehr zehn Jahren löste sie eine kontroverse Debatte aus, die anders als die meisten wissenschaftlichen Debatten nach dem Austausch der Argumente und Daten nicht im Nu erledigt war. Sie zieht sich bis heute hin und macht keinerlei Anstalten, sich zu legen. Vordergründig geht es um Chinesische Zimmer und Chinesische Turnhallen, um Schnellrestaurants, um sprechende Maschinen, um Computer und wieviel Intelligenz sie eines Tages ihr eigen nennen könnten - und in Wahrheit bei alledem um die Letzten Dinge, jene, die Leidenschaften wekken: Was ist der menschliche Geist? Kann es eines Tages eine Maschine geben, die Geist hat? Was die Kontroverse in Gang setzte, war eine Herausforderung an die junge Disziplin der Künstlichen Intelligenz. Das menschliche Geistorgan, so lautete sie, funktioniere nicht wie ein Computer, und folglich könne ein Computer es auch nie und nimmer duplizieren.
