    Abstract
    Cognitive Maps sind mentale Karten, welche jeder Mensch besitzt. Es handelt sich dabei um eine Reflexion der jeweiligen Umwelt. Cognitive Mapping ist eine Methode, welche diese mentale Karte sichtbar macht. Aufgrund dieser Visualisierung können Erkenntnisse darüber gewonnen werden, was Menschen an einem Ort oder in einem Raum tun und wahrnehmen. Die Methode hat verschiede Anwendungstechniken, welche sich in sechs Kategorien teilen: Aufgabenlösung, Elemente orten, Sketch Map erstellen, Zonen und Gebiete einzeichnen, Weg- und Ortsbeschreibung sowie Kognitive Befragung. Anhand dieser lassen sich Untersuchungen beliebig kombinieren. Die Anwendung von Cognitive Mapping sowie eine einfache Befragung in der Kantonsbibliothek Graubünden hat ergeben, dass die Methode für Bibliotheken sinnvoll ist. Allerdings sollte bei zukünftigen Anwendungen die Punkte Gesamtaufwand, Untersuchungsaufbau, Teilnehmer-Zusammensetzung und Auswertungs-Aufwand angepasst werden.

    "Das Thema 'Cognitive Map einer Bibliothek' hat mich von Beginn an interessiert. Methoden anwenden, um den Bedürfnissen der Nutzer zu entsprechen, ist für Bibliotheken eine Möglichkeit sich auch in Zukunft als Wissensplatz zu positionieren.     Abstract
    Die Arbeit entwirft ein Konzept für eine Simulation, die als Teil eines ELearning-Moduls die Probleme der automatischen Freitextindexierung und linguistische Verfahren zur Verbesserung der Indexierungsergebnisse veranschaulichen soll. Zielgruppe der Simulation sind die im Studierenden des Fachbereichs Bibliothek und Information der HAW Hamburg, die sich im Grundstudium befinden. Es wird ein inhaltliches Konzept dafür entwickelt, wie die Simulation Vor- und Nachteile regelbasierter und wörterbuchbasierte Indexierungsverfahren für das Grundstudium darstellen kann. Ziel ist zu zeigen, dass regelbasierte Verfahren in einer stark flektierenden und kompositareichen Sprache wie dem Deutschen zu zahlreichen Indexierungsfehlern führen können und dass wörterbuchbasierte Verfahren bessere Indexate liefern. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit wird eine Informationsarchitektur für die Simulation entworfen und ein Prototyp programmiert, der eine Freitextindexierung und darauf aufbauend ein regelbasiertes Reduktionsverfahren darstellt. Ziel dabei ist insbesondere zu zeigen, dass regelbasierte Indexierungsverfahren für das Deutsche keine befriedigenden Ergebnisse erzielen, und dass wörterbuchbasierte Verfahren im Deutschen zu bevorzugen sind. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird im zweiten Teil der Arbeit ein Prototyp für die Simulation konzipiert, die elektronische Volltexte zunächst nach der Freitextmethode und danach mit linguistischen Verfahren indexiert. Es wird eine Informationsarchitektur entwickelt, die nicht nur anstrebt, der Zielgruppe gerecht zu werden, sondern auch die Vor- und Nachteile der linguistischen Indexierungsverfahren möglichst deutlich zu zeigen. Für die Freitextindexierung als einfachste Form der automatischen Indexierung und für das regelbasierte Verfahren wird auch schon der Programmcode geschrieben. Für die regelbasierte Wortformenreduktion greift die Autorin auf ein schon bestehendes Programm zurück, das Cornelie Ahlfeld 1995 im Rahmen ihrer Diplomarbeit entwickelt hat. Die Autorin versucht, dieses Programm durch eine Präsentation der Indexierungsergebnisse zu ergänzen, die es für den Einsatz in der Lehre nützlich machen.

    Abstract
    Aus Benutzersicht verkörpern Online-Kataloge "the most visible form of library automation." Entweder über das lokale Netzwerk innerhalb der Bibliothek oder eingebunden in das Web-Portal von außerhalb zugänglich, bildet der Online-Katalog den zentralen Ausgangspunkt für die Recherche in Bibliotheksbeständen. Er ist zugleich Kernbestandteil eines integrierten Bibliothekssystems, dessen Entwicklung "has been one of movement from centralized systems, designed and controlled by system designers and programmers, to more and more distributed and customizable systems." Letztgenannte Eigenschaft kennzeichnet auch das Bibliothekssystem ALEPH 500, das vor zehn Jahren mit der Einführung durch die Vorarlberger Landesbibliothek in Bregenz/ Österreich seinen Einzug in den deutschsprachigen Raum startete. Bereits ein Jahr später wurde die Anwendung von den vier Berliner Universitätsbibliotheken in Betrieb genommen und ist seit 2002 auch in der Senatsbibliothek Berlin im Einsatz. Der wiederholte Kontakt mit dem ALEPH-System - sei es im Rahmen von Literaturrecherche, Praktikum oder universitärem Veranstaltungsangebot - gab Anlass für eine nähere Beschäftigung mit diesem Thema. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die Auseinandersetzung mit der Funktionalität von ALEPH-Katalogen und das Herausstellen ihrer Unterschiede im Umfang und in der Ausgestaltung des Angebots hinsichtlich der Ausrichtung auf die Bedürfnisse der Benutzer. Angesichts der gestiegenen Erwartungshaltung in Bezug auf eine schnelle und zuverlässige Informationsbeschaffung soll der Frage nachgegangen werden, in welchem Ausmaß die verfügbaren Möglichkeiten des Softwaresystems ausgeschöpft bzw. zusätzlich ergänzt werden. Die Untersuchung beschränkt sich ausschließlich auf deutschsprachige Kataloge, um aufgrund der ähnlichen Randbedingungen eine bessere Vergleichbarkeit zu gewährleisten. Auf Aspekte der Gestaltung und der Barrierefreiheit wird dabei nicht näher eingegangen, da diese wiederum selbst eigenständige Themengebiete darstellen. Auch der Bereich der Online-Hilfen ist von der Untersuchung ausgenommen, da diese bereits an anderer Stelle ausführlich behandelt wurden. Die Aufbereitung der Ergebnisse betrachtet die untersuchten Online-Kataloge überwiegend in ihrer Gesamtheit, einige beispielhafte Fälle werden zur Demonstration hervorgehoben. Die genauen Resultate sind im Einzelnen erfasst und können der Tabelle im Anhang entnommen werden.
