    Abstract
Presents the Danube Information System (DANIS): a database containing records on documents, persons, organizations, projects, events and standrads relevant to the management of the Environmental Programme on the Danube River Basin. Describes briefly the background ideas for an integrated bibliographic / factual system based on the CDS/ISIS software and the Common Communication Format (CCF), along with the development activities of the system, such as training workshops and expert meetings. Includes a brief account of the present state of the art of the project, including the actual management set up and Internet and WWW presence. Technical aspects of DANIS are highlighted, such as the enrichment of the system by the data entry and searching interfaces and the technical solutions introduced to cope with the integrated approach in both indexing and display formats
