    Abstract
The Venice University Institute of Architecture has developed Easyweb, a software package to integrate its heterogeneous non-compatible bibliographic and multimedia databases, standardise access and create internal links, by transferring all existing OPAC applications to the Web. Features include importation of UNIMARC data, multiple window searching, multibase searching and special applications, e.g. circulation management. Easyweb is notable user friendly and has become the point of reference for OPACs in Italy

    Abstract
Describes the methodology used to evaluate 5 examples of bibliographic management software currently available. Provides a profile of the Library of the National Assemply of Quebec and the services it offers: reference, research, and reconstruction of debates. Identifies the problems it faces and presents an evaluation of its technical needs, needs relating to data control and bibliographies, and staff needs. Analyzes specialist information and the preliminary list of chosen programmes and compares the software using the following criteria: ease of use; assistance; customization; research; networking capabilities; transferabiblity; and price. Considers reasons for the ultimate choice of library master and discusses the question of staff training

    Abstract
The Internet offers everyone the opportunity to improve the quality of their work by facilitating the sharing of practical experience and the tricks of the trade. It also offers the chance to participate in an interactive approach with the developers of computer products. Aims to prevent protracted and painful periods of experimentation by users of bibliographic software by indicating some directions to pursue in this field. Discusses these products, describes the diverse resources of the Internet (Gopher, discussion groups, WWW sites and FTP), and provides some practical advice

    Abstract
UNIMARC is widely used in French libraries for internal cataloguing, but in versions that differ significantly from the official IFLA form, while the BNF uses its own version for exporting bibliographic information. This situation has in part been created by software suppliers who produce modified versions for small libraries but without precisely detailing the variations. Problems will inevitably arise when such libraries change software or join cataloguing networks

    Abstract
Development of authority files and systems for retrieving authority records in France is ill-adapted to public library users but most problems could be resolved by greater collaboration between libraries, suppliers of bibliographic information and software producers. National Library (BNF) and Electre bibliographic records, for example, could modify their authority files and signal changes. Research could be facilitated by addition of supplementary simplified indexing allowing simultaneous access. Graphic tables of indexing structure would allow users to master indexing languages, and this technique couls also be used for creating author and author-title authority files. Such improvements would depend on establishing technical definitions and standards for software

    Abstract
To access a remote catalogue the searcher can use the Z39.50 standard as interface, which requires appropriate software; or for databases accessible on the WWW use a common gateway interface. The multibase access advantage of Z39.50 can also be obtained through a Web navigator by inserting a Web server/Z39.50 client software connector: this can be located either on the search site, in an intermediary position or on the database site, so determining the range of databases which can be searched. Z39.50 also offers interesting possibilities for joint and local cataloguing: multibase searching can equally be realised on intranets

    Abstract
Evaluates an automatic indexing method based on syntactical text analysis combined with statistical analysis. Tests many combinations for the choice of term categories and weighting methods. The experiment, conducted on a software engineering corpus, shows systematic improvement in the use of syntactic term phrases compared to using only individual words as index terms

    Abstract
The Cinémathèque, founded in 1963, houses a film collection of some 27.000 items. The manual catalogue had long proved inadequate, and in 1989 computerization was put in hand, on a very limited budget. The initial choice of US software (STAR) in the absence of a suitable French-language program, resulted in a succession of problems, because of the necessity of adapting STAR for French and the lack of finance to buy in specialist expertise. Describes how staff developed database structures, subject headings, and cataloguing rules. It is hoped to complete the project by the end of 1993

    Abstract
Demonstrates how the efficiency of online searching can be increased the application of conceptual logic; which consists of making systematically explicit all the notional, semantic, and cognitive elements contained in the subject to be searched. Unlike a thesaurus, which has been designed for the most probable, multiple uses, conceptual logic makes it possible to access information through means fully adapted to specific uses. Examples are presented from the TOPIC information retrieval software

    Abstract
Text of a document produced by the French Librarians Association, Federation of Library Software Users and the Association of Directors of Departmental Lending Libraries, setting out standards for local data included in bibliographic notices in UNIMARC format. These are specifically intended for loan copies sent from central to branch libraries, for integration into the local catalogue. The subfields (MARC field 995) are: origin of document; bar code; classification code and loan details; details of contents, support etc; and notes on physical features
