- Abstract
- Museen, Archive, Bibliotheken sind Gedächtnisinstitutionen, die das kulturelle Erbe in ihren Sammlungen bewahren. Sie begegnen derselben Aufgabe, ihr Sammlungsgut nicht nur zu erhalten, sondern auch nutzbar und zugänglich zu machen. Der erste Schritt dahin ist, das Gesammelte zu untersuchen, es zu benennen und einzuordnen und diese Erkenntnisse in einem Verzeichnis zu sammeln. Über das Verzeichnis ist dann das Magazinierte erreichbar. Je größer die Menge der verzeichneten Objekte, desto mehr kommt es darauf an, unterschiedliche Ordnungen, das heißt: unterschiedliche Zugänge für die verschiedenen Interessen anzubieten. So mag ein Verzeichnis der Objekte chronologisch nach ihrem Entstehungszeitraum geordnet sein, ein anderes geografisch, ein drittes nach Personen, die für ein Objekt von Bedeutung sind. Weil Bibliotheken im Unterschied zu Museen und Archiven in der Regel nicht mit Einzelstücken, sondern mit Exemplaren befasst sind, die außerdem - wieder: in der Regel - als textliche Objekte gute Voraussetzung für eine sprachliche Beschreibung bieten, haben sie schon recht früh eine ausgefeilte und wohlgeordnete Praxis der Verzeichnung entwickelt. Die folgenden Überlegungen gelten einem Aspekt dieser Verzeichnung, der in der bibliothekarischen Fachsprache "Sacherschließung" heißt. "Sacherschließung" ist ein wohldefinierter Begriff, der noch dazu eine Tätigkeit bezeichnet, die traditionell für eine Kernaufgabe des wissenschaftlichen Bibliothekars gehalten wird. Betrachtet man jedoch die klassische Definition genauer, dann zeigt sich, dass sie längst nicht mehr umfasst, was als zeitgemäße bibliothekarische Angebote in die Bibliothekskataloge Eingang findet, so dass Praxis und Theorie auseinanderlaufen. Daher gilt es, das Defizit des überkommenen Verständnisses zu analysieren, eine Neudefinition vorzuschlagen und sich daraus ergebende Anregungen für die bibliothekarische Praxis zu reflektieren.

- Abstract
- An vielen wissenschaftlichen Institutionen gibt es Dokumentenserver (Repositorien), auf welchen Forschungsarbeiten veröffentlicht werden können. Diese sind in der Regel im Internet frei zugänglich (Open Access). Allerdings existiert kein zentrales Verzeichnis für die Publikationen, die auf solchen Repositorien veröffentlicht sind, so dass nicht von vornherein klar ist, inwieweit diese Forschungsartikel bei einer Recherche aufgefunden werden können. Dieser Aufsatz enthält Grundsätzliches zum Datenaustausch zwischen Repositorien und Suchdiensten sowie eine exemplarische Untersuchung zur Auffindbarkeit wissenschaftlicher Artikel in Repositorien anhand einiger Beispiele. Ergänzend wird zum Vergleich in kleinerem Umfang die Auffindbarkeit von Artikeln aus wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften betrachtet.

- Abstract
- Unsere Welt ist voller Informationen. Diese werden seit jeher in eine systematische Ordnung gebracht. In der Geschichte der Wissensreprasentation spielen Bibliotheken und Bibliothekare eine grose Rolle. Bereits in der Antike gab es Kataloge. In der Bibliothek der Ptolemaer in Alexandria erarbeitete der Bibliothekar Kallimachos (ca. 305 . ca. 240 v.Chr.) die .Pinakes_g (Pinax: altgriechisch fur Tafel und Verzeichnis), die sehr wahrscheinlich gleichzeitig einen systematischen Katalog und eine Bibliographie verkorperten. Zusatzlich wurden die Dokumente rudimentar mittels eines vorgegebenen Ordnungssystems erschlossen und der Inhalt ruckte in den Mittelpunkt. Auch Philosophen hatten ihren Anteil an den Grundlagen der Wissensreprasentation. Aristoteles (384_]322 v.Chr.) arbeitete Kriterien aus, nach denen Begriffe voneinander zu differenzieren sind und nach denen Begriffe in eine hierarchische Ordnung gebracht werden. Das waren die Grundlagen fur Klassifikationen. Eine methodische Revolution erleben Klassifikationsforschung und .praxis mit der .Decimal Classification_g (1876) des amerikanischen Bibliothekars Melvil Dewey (1851_]1931). Die Grundidee der Klassifikation war einfach. Das Wissen wurde in maximal zehn Unterbegriffe unterteilt und durch Dezimalzeichen dargestellt. Die Aufstellung der Bucher in der Bibliothek folgte der Klassifikation, so dass thematisch verwandte Werke dicht beieinander standen. Die Dewey Dezimalklassifikation (DDC) wird auch heute noch haufig fur die inhaltliche Erschliesung genutzt und im Umkehrschluss um Dokumente aus einer Fulle von Informationen herausfinden zu konnen.
