- Abstract
- Die Abschlusstagung des Projekts "Dissertationen Online" in Berlin am 30. und 31. Oktober 2000 endete nicht mit einem Schlussstrich für das Projekt, sondern mit einem Aufruf zur Beteiligung an der Fortführung der Ideen und des Konzepts unter der Schirmherrschaft Der Deutschen Bibliothek: "DissOnline.de". Dieses Unternehmen resultiert aus zwei Jahren Entwicklungsarbeit an den Standorten Berlin, Duisburg, Oldenburg, Erlangen und Göttingen im Projekt "Dissertationen Online", dessen Ergebnisse den zahlreichen Teilnehmern auf dieser Tagung vorgestellt wurden. Exemplarisch für den Bereich der wissenschaftlichen Qualifikationsarbeiten hat das DFG-Projekt "Dissertationen Online" Lösungen und Hilfen für Erstellung, Erschließung, Retrieval und Archivierung solcher Schriften entwickelt. Diese Hilfen und Werkzeuge betreffen Fragen urheberrechtlicher Natur zwischen Autoren, Fakultäten und Bibliotheken, sowie Der Deutschen Bibliothek und den Verlagen, die Strukturierung von Metadaten und Volltexten zur dokumentarischen Erschließung, die Suchverfahren für Metadaten und Volltexte auf den Servern der Hochschule und der Deutschen Bibliothek, die Formate für Darstellung, Druck, Retrieval und Archivierung, die Konzeption des Workflow zwischen Autoren, Fakultäten, Bibliotheken und Der Deutschen Bibliothek, die Archivierung auf zertifizierten Dokumentservern der Universitäten, sowie die Konzeption einer hoch qualitativen Unterstützung der Autoren, die unter anderem eine Umsetzung in multimediale Hilfen und Schulungsmaterialien für alle Beteiligten vorsieht. Alle diese Lösungen favorisieren dabei offene Standards und sind mit den internationalen Partnern der "Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations" (NTLTD) abgestimmt

- Abstract
- Die Digitale Bibliothek hat viele Gesichter und viele Funktionen, Kein des Begriffs ist die Aufbereitung, Zugänglichkeit und Verarbeitung von digitalen - aber auch nichtdigitalen - Quellen. Das Management von elektronischen Informationsressourcen birgt neue Strukturen, neue Paradigmen, neue Arbeitsweisen und neue Informationsvermittlungsmethoden. Noch einer Übersicht über die Begriffsbestimmung "Digitale Bibliothek" werden die Forschungsprogramme und Förderansätze hinsichtlich digitaler Bibliotheksprojekte in den USA, Europa, Asien und Ozeanien dargestellt. Einzelne Aspekte der digitalen Bibliothek werden dann näher erläutert wie die Architektur der digitalen Bibliothek, Metadaten, Dokumentenerstellung, Interoperability, Gateways - Clearinghouses etc., Paradigmenverschiebung, elektronische Zeitschriften, Informationsvermittlung, Abrechungsmodalitäten, Archivierung etc. Weiterhin wird überlegt, was die künftigen Implikationen der Informationseuphorie bzw des "dato smog" sind, wie der Wissenschaftlerarbeitsplatz aussieht und weiche Rolle Bibliothek und Bibliothekare in der Informationsversorgung künftig haben

- Abstract
- In dem Beitrag wird ein knapper Überblick über verschiedene Projekte deutscher wissenschaftlicher Bibliotheken gegeben, welche mit unterschiedlichen Zielen und Konzepten zum Aufbau digitaler Bibliotheken beitragen. Es werden dabei 3 Bereiche unterschieden: Der Aufbau von Zugangssystemen zu elektronischen Fachinformationen, elektronische Dokumentlieferdienste und digital Dokumente im engeren Sinne. Erschließungssysteme für elektronische Fachinformationen werden in folgenden Projekten entwickelt: SSG-Fachinformation der SUB Göttingen, IBIS der UB Bielefeld und Gerhard des BIS Oldenburg. An elektronischen Dokumentlieferdiensten werden thematisiert: Das Online-Fernleihsystem des GBV, JASOB-NRW, TIBQUICK 2000 der TIB/UB Hannover und OMNIS/Myriad. Retrodigitalisierung gedruckter Dokumente wird im Rahmen der 'Verteilten digitalen Forschungsbibliothek' durchgeführt, während im WebDOC-Projekt ein umfassendes Konzept für die Administration elektronischer Dokumente durch Bibliotheken entwickelt wurde. Ein vergleichbares Konzept wird im Projekt MEDOC für den Bereich der Informatik erarbeitet

- Abstract
- Seit Ende Mai 1996 stellt die ETH-Bibliothek Zürich ihren benutzern ein wachsendes Angebot an elektronischen Volltext-Zeitschriften über Internet zur Vefügung. Über die Homepage 'Elektronische Zeitschriften der ETH-Bibliothek' können sich Interessenten über die Zugriffsbedingungen informieren und auf die Volltexte zugreifen. Das Angebot an Online-Versionen von Zeitschriften wächst gegenwärtig exponentiell, so daß Bibliotheken darüber nachdenken müssen, in welcher Weise relevante Zeitschriftentitel sinnvollerweise den Kunden angeboten werden können. Der vorliegende Beitrag zeigt anhand des Projektes an der ETH-Bibliothek eine Möglichkeit, wie eine Hochschulbibliothek diesen virtuellen Zeitschriftenbestand präsentieren und verwalten kann

- Abstract
- Die Bibliothek der Eidgenössischen Technischen Hochschule Zürich (ETHZ) erfüllt eine Doppelfunktion. Zum einen fungiert sie als Hauptbibliothek der ETH Zürich und darüber hinaus übernimmt sie die Funktion eines naturwissenschaftlich-technischen Informationszentrums für die Schweiz. Bei der Einführung neuer Technologien im Schweizer Bibliothekswesen übernimmt die ETH-Bibliothek zudem traditionell eine Führungsrolle. Vor diesem Hintergrund betrachtet, erstaunt es nicht, dass sich die ETH-Bibliothek seit geraumer Zeit damit befasst, wie Dissertationen elektronisch zur Verfügung gestellt werden können. In der Promotionsordnung der ETH Zürich ist die elektronische Abgabe einer Dissertation bisher nicht vorgesehen. Allerdings müssen die Promovierenden lediglich acht Exemplare ihrer Arbeit abgeben

- Bibliotheken befinden sich weltweit im Wandel. Der allgemeine Trend, Informationen in zunehmendem Maße (oder gar ausschließlich) aus dem Internet zu beziehen, hat Konsequenzen für die Konzeption des bibliothekarischen Informationsdienstes. Viele Bibliotheken bieten bereits einen digitalen Auskunftsdienst an. Zumeist wird dieser jedoch von einzelnen Bibliotheken bereitgestellt, die dadurch auf synergetische Effekte und Vorteile durch Zusammenarbeit verzichten. Abhilfe schaffen Informationsverbünde, in denen mehrere Bibliotheken arbeitsteilig digitalen Auskunftsdienst anbieten. Die Autorin Sonja Härkönen gibt einen Überblick über die Entwicklung solcher Digital Reference Konsortien in den USA, klärt die Begrifflichkeiten und stellt die verschiedenen Formen des Digital Reference Service vor. Darauf aufbauend diskutiert sie anhand von Praxisbeispielen die Vor- und Nachteile verschiedener konzeptioneller Modelle. Organisatorische und strukturelle Anregungen mit Blick auf das Bibliothekssystem in Deutschland zum Aufbau von kooperativen digitalen Auskunftsdiensten runden die vorliegende Untersuchung ab. Das Buch richtet sich an Entscheidungsträger in Bibliotheken und Verbänden, sowie an Projektmitarbeiter und -manager, die sich mit dem Thema des digitalen Auskunftsdienstes befassen.

- Nach Abschluß des von der DFG geförderten Projektes 'SSG-Fachinformationssysteme im Internet' legt die Projektgruppe der SUB Göttingen eine ausführliche Dokumentation des Projektkonzeptes vor. Ziel des Projektes war es, ein bibliothekarisches Konzept zu entwickeln, wie Internet-Ressourcen - wobei hierunter nicht einzelne elektronische Dokumente verstanden werden, sondern sog. thematische Server - in das Sammel- und Erschließungskonzept einer wissenschaftlichen Biblithek integriert werden können

- Die vorliegenden Ausführungen versuchen Antworten zu geben, auf die zentrale Frage der sich entwickelnden Informationsgesellschaft: Welche Konzepte beschreibt der Begriff 'Elektronische Bibliothek' im Jahr 1996 für Nutzer und Anbieter von Informationsangeboten im Internet? Hierbei ist von Bedeutung, daß die virtuelle Bibliothek Internet bereits heute ein erhebliches Informationspotential besitzt, das jedoch gegenwärtig noch nicht adäquat genutzt werden kann. Um diese Situation zu verbessern und zu optimieren, müssen einheitliche Nutzungskonzepte entwickelt und implementiert werden. Bei der Diskussion dieser Frage dürfen auch und gerade Bibliotheken nicht vergessen werden, da sie neben der virteullen Bibliothek Internet selbst und neben Internet-basierten Informationssystemen eine zentrale Rolle spielen
