- Abstract
- Die vorhandenen Bibliothekskatalogsysteme sind aufgrund der Rahmenbedingungen ihrer historischen Entwicklung und ihrer monolithischen Konzeption wenig flexibel an aktuelle Suchstandards und die Verwaltung elektronischer Medien anzupassen. Das hybride Angebot an klassischen Printmedien einerseits und elektronischen Dokumenten anderseits sowie die erhebliche, stetig wachsende Vielfalt an Medientypen und Zugangsvarianten stellen die elektronischen Kataloge der Bibliotheken vor große Herausforderungen. Zur Erschließung dieses Medien-Mixes bedarf es neuer moderner Suchsysteme. In Bibliotheken ist bisher übliche Praxis, den Nachweis verschiedener Medientypen über viele unterschiedliche externe Systeme abzuwickeln. Die Problematik dieser heterogenen Nachweissituation ist Kunden kaum transparent zu machen. Durch ihre Recherche-Erfahrungen mit Suchmaschinen wie Google erwarten Nutzer demgegenüber ein einfaches und einheitliches Suchinterface für alle Fragestellungen und einen möglichst direkten Zugriff auf die relevanten Volltexte. Um dieser Nachfrage in Zukunft besser gerecht zu werden, führen viele wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken sog. Discoverykataloge ein.
Die E-LIB der SuUB Bremen arbeitet bereits seit 2004 als einheitlicher Katalog elektronischer und gedruckter Medien auf Basis von selbst entwickelter Suchmaschinentechnologie. Alle wesentlichen Medien und Dienste der Bibliothek werden unter einer Suchoberfläche angeboten, um die übliche heterogene Nachweissituation der verschiedenen Medientypen soweit wie möglich aufzulösen. Das Projekt verfolgt das Ziel, alle lokalen Bestände vor Ort und alle für Bremer Nutzer im Zugriff extern verfügbaren Medien in einem einzigen Retrievalsystem zur Verfügung zu stellen und neu entwickelte Verfahren zur Unterstützung von assoziativen Suchprozessen anzubieten. In dem von der Bibliothek kontrollierten Suchraum der Bremer E-LIB finden sich derzeit ca. 60 Mio. Nachweise - zu über 90% elektronische Volltexte.

- Abstract
- Die Digitalisierung des kulturellen Erbes in Bibliotheken, Archiven und Museen hat in den letzten Jahrzehnten eine rasant zunehmende Verfügbarkeit kultureller Inhalte im Web bewirkt - so hat die Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz (SBB-PK) rund 170.000 Werke (Bücher, Zeitschriften, Zeitungen, Karten, Notenschriften etc.) aus ihrem reichhaltigen Bestand digitalisiert und über ein eigenes Online-Portal bereitgestellt (Stand Mai 2020). Noch deutlicher wird die immense Menge der durch die Digitalisierung entstandenen digitalen Kulturobjekte beim Blick auf die von Aggregatoren gebildeten Sammlungen - so beinhaltet die Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek etwa 33 Millionen Nachweise für Digitalisate aus Kultureinrichtungen (Stand Mai 2020), die europäische digitale Bibliothek Europeana weist knapp 60 Millionen digitalisierte Kulturobjekte nach (Stand Mai 2020).

- Abstract
- Der gegenwärtige Wandel zur Informationsgesellschaft betrifft auch die Bibliotheken. Schlagworte wie "virtuelle Bibliothek" oder "digitale Bibliothek" tauchen immer häufiger in der Bibliothekslandschaft auf. Die Bücher-Bibliotheken" werden nicht verschwinden, aber sie müssen sich der Herausforderung der Informationsgesellschaft stellen und ihre Rolle neu definieren. Wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken nehmen sich bereits seit einiger Zeit der neuen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien an, aber auch für die Öffentlichen Bibliotheken besteht Handlungsbedarf. Das Land Salzburg hat deshalb eine Studie mit dem Titel "Die Digitale Bibliothek" bei der Techno-Z Fachhochschule Forschung und Entwicklung GmbH in Auftrag gegeben, die Strategien für die Weiterentwicklung der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken des Landes im Informationszeitalter entwickeln soll. Die Ergebnisse dieser Studie sind nicht nur für die Öffentlichen Bibliotheken im Land Salzburg von Interesse, sondern betreffen auch andere Regionen und deren Bibliothekslandschaft. Aufgrund der großen Nachfrage haben wir uns daher zu einem Sonderdruck des Heftes 15 der "Materialien zur Weiterbildung in Salzburg" mit den wichtigsten Ergebnisse der Studie entschlossen. So liegt neben dem umfangreichen Endbericht eine Kurzfassung vor. Diese Kurzfassung haben wir für Sie via Internet zugänglich gemacht.

- Abstract
- Schon zur Wende ins 20. Jahrhundert zweifelte der belgische Privatgelehrte Paul Otlet an der Zukunft des Buches und der Bibliothek. Statt dessen begann er damit, eine Dokumentation und Neuorganisation des Weltwissens anzulegen, und mittels eines Karteikartensystems (Répertoire Bibliographique Universel) zu vernetzen. Dieses Projekt eines flexiblen, abfrageorientierten Wissensbestandes in einem 'Hypermedium' (Otlet) besetzte jene technologische Leerstelle, die inzwischen eine die bibliothekarische Epoche aufsprengende neue Wissenskultur der digitalen Medialität produziert hat.

- Dieser Aufsatz ist kein Abgesang auf MeSH (= Medical Subject Headings in Medline/PubMed), wie man/frau vielleicht vermuten könnte. Vielmehr wird - ohne informatiklastiges Fachchinesisch - an Hand des von der National Library of Medicine entwickelten Unified Medical Language System erklärt, worin die Anforderungen an Ontologien bestehen, die im Zusammenhang mit dem Semantic Web allerorten eingefordert und herbeigewünscht werden. Eine Lektüre für Einsteigerinnen, die zum Vertiefen der gewonnenen Begriffssicherheit an Hand der weiterführenden Literaturhinweise anregt. Da das UMLS hier vor allem als Beispiel verwendet wird, werden auch Bibliothekarlnnen, Dokumentarlnnen und Informationsspezialistinnen anderer Fachbereiche den Aufsatz mit Gewinn lesen - und erfahren, dass unser Fachwissen aus der Sacherschließung und der Verwendung und Mitgestaltung von Normdateien und Thesauri bei der Entwicklung von Ontologien gefragt ist!
