    "Das Thema 'Cognitive Map einer Bibliothek' hat mich von Beginn an interessiert. Methoden anwenden, um den Bedürfnissen der Nutzer zu entsprechen, ist für Bibliotheken eine Möglichkeit sich auch in Zukunft als Wissensplatz zu positionieren. Das Spannende an dieser Arbeit war, sich zunächst in den vielen Anwendungsmöglichkeiten der Methode zurechtzufinden, einige davon auszuprobieren und schlussendlich herauszufinden, ob die Methode als sinnvoll für Bibliotheken bezeichnet werden kann."

    Abstract
    Innerhalb der Gedächtnisinstitutionen Bibliothek, Museum und Archiv gibt es je eigene Beschreibungsmodelle der beherbergten Objekte und Materialien. Für eine genauere bibliografische Erschließung wurde im Bibliotheksbereich das von Benutzerbedürfnissen ausgehende, statische Modell "Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records" (FRBR) geschaffen, dessen ungenauer »Werk«-Begriff ebenso thematisiert wird wie die schwer zu realisierende Übertragbarkeit des Modells auf Nicht-Buchmaterialien. Die Museumswelt orientiert die Darstellung ihrer Bestände am CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model (CRM), das sich hinsichtlich der Beschreibung heterogener Museumsobjekte, also Artefakten künstlerischer und intellektueller Gestaltung, als hilfreich erwiesen hat. In gegenseitigem Austausch zwischen IFLA und ICOM wurde FRBR mit CRM harmonisiert. Das Ergebnis, FRBRoo (objektorientiertes FRBR), zeigt seine Vorzüge zum einen in einer strengeren Interpretation der Entitäten der Gruppe 1 des FRBR-Modells und zum anderen in einer genaueren Abbildung von Prozessen bzw. Ereignissen. Beispiele zum Anwendungsbezug von FRBRoo zeigen dessen Zugewinn für die wissenschaftliche Erschließung hand-, druck- und online-schriftlicher Quellen, Werken der Darstellenden Kunst, Landkarten und Musikalien innerhalb einer CRM-basierten Datenbank.

    Abstract
    Dieser Beitrag beschreibt die Strukturierungsprinzipien und Anwendungskontexte lexikalisch-semantischer Wortnetze, insbesondere des deutschen Wortnetzes GermaNet. Wortnetze sind zurzeit besonders populäre elektronische Lexikonressourcen, die große Abdeckungen semantisch strukturierter Datenfür verschiedene Sprachen und Sprachverbünde enthalten. In Wortnetzen sind die häufigsten und wichtigsten Konzepte einer Sprache mit ihren elementaren Bedeutungsrelationen repräsentiert. Zentrale Anwendungen für Wortnetze sind u.a. die Lesartendisambiguierung und die Informationserschließung. Der Artikel skizziert die neusten Szenarien, in denen GermaNet eingesetzt wird: die Semantische Informationserschließung und die Integration allgemeinsprachlicher Wortnetze mit terminologischen Ressourcen vordem Hintergrund der Datenkonvertierung in OWL.

    Abstract
    "Wir ertrinken in Informationen, aber uns dürstet nach Wissen." Trendforscher John Naisbitt drückt hiermit aus, dass es dem Menschen heute nicht mehr möglich ist die Informationsflut, die sich über ihn ergießt, effizient zu verwerten. Er lebt in einer globalisierten Welt mit einem vielfältigen Angebot an Medien, wie Presse, Radio, Fernsehen und dem Internet. Die Problematik der mangelnden Auswertbarkeit von großen Informationsmengen ist dabei vor allem im Internet akut. Die Quantität, Verbreitung, Aktualität und Verfügbarkeit sind die großen Vorteile des World Wide Web (WWW). Die Probleme liegen in der Qualität und Dichte der Informationen. Das Information Retrieval muss effizienter gestaltet werden, um den wirtschaftlichen und kulturellen Nutzen einer vernetzten Welt zu erhalten.Matthias Erbarth beleuchtet zunächst genau diesen Themenkomplex, um im Anschluss ein Format für elektronische Dokumente, insbesondere kommerzielle Publikationen, zu entwickeln. Dieses Anwendungsbeispiel stellt eine semantische Inhaltsbeschreibung mit Metadaten mittels XML vor, wobei durch Nutzung von Verweisen und Auswertung von Zusammenhängen insbesondere eine netzförmige Darstellung berücksichtigt wird.

    Abstract
    Die vorliegende Arbeit versucht, das Thema "Topic Maps" von verschiedenen Perspektiven zu betrachten. "Topic Maps" sind geordnete Wissensnetze. Sie stellen ein Hilfsmittel dar, um sich in der immer größer werdenden Informationsvielfalt zurechtzufinden und beim Navigieren trotz einer möglichen Informationsüberflutung die Übersicht zu behalten. Wie ein Stichwortverzeichnis in einem guten Fachbuch, helfen sie, die genau gesuchte Information zu finden. Die Tatsache, dass elektronische Informationen in größerem Umfang als die Seiten eines Buches vorliegen und auf heterogenen Plattformen gespeichert sind, zieht die Konsequenz mit sich, dass Topic Maps nicht nur aus einer Liste alphabetisch sortierter Stichworte bestehen. Vielmehr werden mit Hilfe von Topic Maps logische Konzepte entworfen, die Wissensnetze semantisch modellieren. In Zusammenhang mit Topic Maps spricht Tim Berner-Lee von der dritten Revolution des Internets. Die XTM-Arbeitsgruppe wirbt sogar mit dem Slogan "Das GPS des Web". So wie eine Landkarte eine schematische Sicht auf eine reale Landschaft ermöglicht und bestimmte Merkmale der Landschaft (z.B. Städte, Straßen, Flüsse) markiert, sind Topic Map in der Lage wichtige Merkmale eines Informationsbestandes festzuhalten und in Bezug zueinander zu setzen. So wie ein GPS-Empfänger die eigene Position auf der Karte feststellt, kann eine Topic Map die Orientierung in einer virtuellen Welt vernetzter Dokumente herstellen. Das klingt etwas exotisch, hat jedoch durchaus praktische und sehr weit gefächerte Anwendungen.
