    Abstract
The mathematician and philosopher Kurt Gödel reportedly discovered a deep logical contradiction in the US Constitution. What was it? In this paper, the author revisits the story of Gödel's discovery and identifies one particular "design defect" in the Constitution that qualifies as a "Gödelian" design defect. In summary, Gödel's loophole is that the amendment procedures set forth in Article V self-apply to the constitutional statements in Article V themselves, including the entrenchment clauses in Article V. Furthermore, not only may Article V itself be amended, but it may also be amended in a downward direction (i.e., through an "anti-entrenchment" amendment making it easier to amend the Constitution). Lastly, the Gödelian problem of self-amendment or anti-entrenchment is unsolvable. In addition, the author identifies some "non-Gödelian" flaws or "design defects" in the Constitution and explains why most of these miscellaneous design defects are non-Gödelian or non-logical flaws.

    Abstract
In our previous paper "Gödel's Loophole," we retold the story of Kurt Gödel's discovery in late 1947 of a deep logical contradiction in the United States Constitution. At the time, however, and for many years thereafter, this purported discovery was discounted as nonsense or as highly improbable. Yet this assessment ignores Gödel's Central European background and the dramatic constitutional histories of many Central European states during the interbellum period. Specifically, during his years at the University Vienna (1924-1940) -- first as a student and then as a lecturer -- Gödel would have noticed that every constitutional democracy in Central Europe ended in dictatorship. In this paper, then, we survey the series of "anti-constitutional moments" unfolding in interbellum Europe in order to shed some light on Gödel's later discovery of a logical contradiction in the U.S. Constitution. Simply stated, Gödel's main concern was the theoretical possibility of a "constitutional dictatorship." But how likely was this possibility as a practical matter? It turns out, very likely, if the constitutional history of interbellum Europe is any guide.

    Abstract
The approach of the new millennium inclines us to reflect backward on earlier influences in information science and technology. Among them are Otto Neurath (1882-1945), an educator, sociologist, and scientist of the early 20th century; and the Vienna Circle, an innovative group of scientists and philosophers. Neurath was the Circle's cofounder, chief propagandist and tireless motivator. His modern vision of scientific communication as a salutary unifying force in the quest for utopian social reform was revolutionary in its time. He shared ideas with Albert Einstein, Kurt Gödel, Rudolph Carnap, and others whose names and ideas still resonate today. The Circle's thoughtful progress towards modern scientific inquiry laid the groundwork for scientists such as Willard van Orman Quine, Thomas Kuhn, and Karl Popper. In a time of social and economic upheaval in Germany, these scientists were motivated by utopian ideals of social reform and free expression. Encyclopedism, logical positivism, Viennese culture, and Neurath's vision culminated in the International Encyclopedia of Unified Science, the idea of which was kept alive while its contributors were moving across Europe to escape Nazi persecution. Neurath's radical vision of a unified scientific world, of an enlightened and empowered populace, and of the historically grounded values of empiricism, made him a prescient voice in modern philosophy of science and society. The International Encyclopedia of Unified Science records an incomplete dream of unified scientific thought, and the revolutionary ideas that now comprise the orthodoxy of positivist science of an earlier time
