- "Eigentlich nicht viel los bei Goethe. Vor zwei Wochen eröffnete das weltweit tätige Kulturinstitut der Bundesrepublik Deutschland seine Dependance im Second Life. Vielleicht etwas spät, denn in dem virtuellen Paralleluniversum gibt es zwar immer noch einiges zu entdecken, aber der letzte Schrei ist es nicht mehr. Der große Hype um das 2003 von der kalifornischen Firma Linden Lab in Betrieb genommene Online-Portal liegt bereits einige Jahre zurück und fiel in die Zeit, als sich unter dem Stichwort Web 2.0 noch die Hoffnung auf eine ganz neue Dimension des Geldverdienens versammelte. Damit hat das Goethe-Institut selbstverständlich nichts zu tun. Vielmehr erwarten den Besucher in einem luftig-lockeren Ambiente etliche Bildungsangebote, kostenlos, versteht sich. Dazu gehört ein spartanisch eingerichtetes Klassenzimmer für Deutschkurse - einmal in der Woche und auf dem "Niveau A2", wie uns eine Hinweistafel erläutert. Eine Galerie zeigt die beiden Ausstellungen "Tropen" und "Junge deutsche Modefotografie" - um seinen Avatar, also den virtuellen Stellvertreter im Second Life, durch die engen Bildergassen zu lotsen, braucht es allerdings etwas Geschick. Auf Videoleinwänden lassen sich die Beiträge aus dem Kurzfilmwettbewerb "Die Macht der Sprache" anschauen - jedenfalls der Idee nach, denn das Handling der Videos erweist sich als schwierig. Das alles und noch einiges mehr: Wer zum Beispiel schon immer einmal wissen wollte, was die Goethe-Institute so treiben, kann auf einer begehbaren Weltkarte die Veranstaltungskalender vieler Zweigstellen einsehen. Doch die meiste Zeit herrscht auf dem virtuellen Goethe-Areal tote Hose. Nur ein leiser Wind ist hier und da zu vernehmen, schließlich befinden wir uns auf einer recht kleinen Insel im großen Meer, dem so genannten Grid, des Second Life. Doch das blaue Wasser plätschert träge. Selbst in das lichte Café, in dem von Montags bis Freitags ein "moderierter Deutsch-Chat" stattfinden soll, verirrt sich kaum eine Seele. Für jemanden, der nur wegen Goethe seinen Weg in dieses Geisterreich fand, eine kleine Enttäuschung.
