    Abstract
Points to weaknesses of conceptual modelling languages that are oriented towards certain aspects of the problem domain of information systems development. Modelling languages are needed that allow modellers to: freely choose to represent a wide and extensible range of aspects of problem domain phenomena continguent on the problems at hand; simultaneously co-represent several aspects of the same problem domain phenomenon whenever needed; reflect semantical relations between these aspects in the problem domain models; and extend the set of kinds of aspects that can be represented and visualised throughout problem analysis as understanding of the problem domain and the problems at hand increases. Outlines an approach called facet modelling of real-world problem domains to deal with the complexity of contemporary analysis problems. Defines and visualizes facet models, discusses facet modelling in relation to other recent ideas and techniques in the information system development field. Case studies are currently in progress to evaluate various implications of the facet modelling approach empirically

    Abstract
Presents a novel method to extract from a web object its hyper informative content, in contrast with current search engines, which only deal with the textual information content. This method is not only valuable per se, but it is shown to be able to considerably increase the precision of current search engines. It integrates with existing search engine technology since it can be implemented on top of every search engine, acting as a post-processor, thus automatically transforming a search engine into its corresponding hyper version. Shows how the hyper information can be usefully employed to face the search engines persuasion problem

    Abstract
Describes a search engine that integrate text and image search. 1 or more Web site can be indexed for both textual and image information, allowing the user to search based on keywords or images or both. Another problem with the current search engines is that they show the results as pages of scrolled lists; this is not very user-friendly. The search engine allows the user to visualise to results in various ways. Explains the indexing and searching techniques of the search engine and highlights several features of the querying interface to make the retrieval process more efficient. Use examples to show the usefulness of the technology

    Abstract
Analyzes 3 different formalisations of concept-learning in logic. Learning from interpretations reduces to learning from entailment, which in turn reduces to learning from satisfiability. Discusses the implications for inductive logic programming and computational learning theory and formulates guidelines for choosing a problem-setting method

    Abstract
Automatic thesaurus construction is accomplished by extracting term relations mechanically. A popular method uses statistical analysis to discover the term relations. For low frequency terms the statistical information of the terms cannot be reliably used for deciding the relationship of terms. This problem is referred to as the data sparseness problem. Many studies have shown that low frequency terms are of most use in thesaurus construction. Characterizes the statistical behaviour of terms by using an inference network. Develops a formal approach using a Baysian network for the data sparseness problem

    Abstract
Defines and explores the use of problem solving heuristics in user interface design. A demonstration hypertext system, Hyperwriter, was developed as the outcome of considering general problems solving heuristics as goals of interactive systems design. Whereas hypertext joins and relates ideas, Hyperwriter additionally, and as a direct outcome of the design approach, has ways of separating, ordering and polishing ideas as an application for creative writing. Hypertext supports effective thinking over a period of time. Discusses some issues arising in implementing Hypertext

    Abstract
Discusses stage 2 in the process of teaching information problem solving, information seeking strategies, which has 2 components: determining the range of possible sources, and evaluating them to determine priorities. Describes 'brainstorming and narrow', the essential process for information seeking strategies

    Abstract
One of the most common errors in cataloguing library materials involves miscoding of the nonfiling indicator of title fields. Notes the extent of the problem and its negative effect on searching in the library's online catalogue and surveys how librarians have approached solutions to the problems. Describes how the major library automation system address this problem
