    Abstract
    Why doesn't your home page appear on the first page of search results, even when you query your own name? How do other Web pages always appear at the top? What creates these powerful rankings? And how? The first book ever about the science of Web page rankings, "Google's PageRank and Beyond" supplies the answers to these and other questions and more. The book serves two very different audiences: the curious science reader and the technical computational reader. The chapters build in mathematical sophistication, so that the first five are accessible to the general academic reader. While other chapters are much more mathematical in nature, each one contains something for both audiences.     Abstract
    Für Webseiten ist, wie für alle interaktiven Anwendungen vom einfachen Automaten bis zur komplexen Software, die Benutzerfreundlichkeit von zentraler Bedeutung. Allerdings wird eine sinnvolle Benutzung von Informationsangeboten im World Wide Web häufig durch "cooles Design" unnötig erschwert, weil zentrale Punkte der Benutzerfreundlichkeit (Usability) vernachlässigt werden. Durch Usability Evaluation kann die Benutzerfreundlichkeit von Webseiten und damit auch die Akzeptanz bei den Benutzern verbessert werden. Ziel ist die Gestaltung von ansprechenden benutzerfreundlichen Webangeboten, die den Benutzern einen effektiven und effizienten Dialog ermöglichen. Das Buch bietet eine praxisorientierte Einführung in die Web Usability Evaluation und beschreibt die Anwendung ihrer verschiedenen Methoden.

Welche Technologie steckt dahinter, und wie lässt sich diese für individuelle Zwecke einsetzen? Diese Frage beantwortet Johannes Gamperl in "AJAX. Web 2.0 in der Praxis", weiches im Galileo Verlag erschienen ist. Das Zauberwort hinter Web 2.0 heißt AJAX. AJAX heißt "asynchron javascript and xml" und deutet an, woraus diese neue Programmier-Technik besteht: aus bereits vorhandenen und gut eingeführten Sprachen wie JavaScript und XML. Die Grundlagen sind nicht neu, doch die kreative Art ihrer Verwendung macht sie zur Zukunftstechnologie im Web schlechthin. Die Thematik Hyperlinks ist im Information Retrieval höchst aktuell, da Suchmaschinen die Link-Struktur bei der Berechnung ihrer Ergebnisse berücksichtigen. Algorithmen zur Bestimmung des "guten Rufs" einer Seite wie etwa PageRank von Google gewichten eine Seite höher, wenn viele links auf sie verweisen. Zu den neuesten Erkenntnissen über die Netzwerkstruktur des Internets liegen zwei sehr gut lesbare Bücher vor. Der Autor des ersten Buchs, der Wirtschaftswissenschaftler Huberman, ist Leiter einer Forschungsabteilung bei Hewlett Packard. Huberman beschreibt in seinem Buch zunächst die Geschichte des Internet als technologische Revolution und gelangt dann schnell zu dessen Evolution und den darin vorherrschenden Wahrscheinlichkeitsverteilungen. Oberraschenderweise treten im Internet häufig power-law Wahrscheinlichkeitsverteilungen auf, die der Zipf'schen Verteilung ähneln. Auf diese sehr ungleichen Aufteilungen etwa von eingehenden HypertextLinks oder Surfern pro Seite im Internet bezieht sich der Titel des Buchs. Diese immer wieder auftretenden Wahrscheinlichkeitsverteilungen scheinen geradezu ein Gesetz des Internet zu bilden. So gibt es z.B. viele Sites mit sehr wenigen Seiten und einige wenige mit Millionen von Seiten, manche Seiten werden selten besucht und andere ziehen einen Großteil des Internet-Verkehrs auf sich, auf die meisten Seiten verweisen sehr wenige Links während auf einige wenige populäre Seiten Millionen von Links zielen. Das vorletzte Kapitel widmen übrigens beide Autoren den Märkten im Internet. Spätestens hier werden die wirtschaftlichen Aspekte von Netzwerken deutlich. Beide Titel führen den Leser in die neue Forschung zur Struktur des Internet als Netzwerk und sind leicht lesbar. Beides sind wissenschaftliche Bücher, wenden sich aber auch an den interessierten Laien. Das Buch von Barabási ist etwas aktueller, plauderhafter, länger, umfassender und etwas populärwissenschaftlicher."

Dieses Versprechen lösen Angie Radtke und Michael Charlier mit einer DemoWeb-Site für die fiktive Gemeinde BadSeendorf (Internet, URL http://www.badseendorf.de) ein. Dort werden einander zwei Versionen gegenübergestellt, wobei der Ausgangspunkt ein barrierebehaftetes Design ist, das durch eine barrierearme Version ersetzt wird. Diese beiden Beispiele wären für sich genommen bereits sehr hilfreich bei der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema Barrierefreiheit. In Kombination mit dem zugehörigen Buch haben Radtke und Charlier eine umfassende Einführung geschaffen, die sowohl für die eigenständige Einarbeitung in die Thematik als auch für die Verwendung in der Lehre sehr geeignet ist. In einem knappen theoretisch ausgerichteten Grundlagenteil werden Fragen behandelt wie beispielsweise was Barrierefreiheit ist und wem sie nützt, warum Zugänglichkeit und ansprechendes Design kein Widerspruch sind und welche gesetzlichen Vorgaben gelten. Im Mittelpunkt des umfangreichen Praxisteils steht die genannte Web-Site der fiktiven Gemeinde Bad-Seendorf. Ausgehend von dem barrierebehafteten Design werden an konkreten Beispielen die Probleme bestimmter Nutzergruppen analysiert, zu denen neben den üblicherweise dargestellten Betroffenen auch die Altersgruppe 50plus zählt, die häufig vernachlässigt wird. Weiterhin wird in einzelnen Kapiteln eine Analyse von Barrieren durchgeführt, sowie Maßnahmen zur gezielten Vermeidung von Zugangsblockaden und Zugangserschwernissen aufgezeigt, wobei auch auf multimediale Inhalte und Sonderfälle wie PDF, Flash, und Videos in Deutscher Gebärdensprache eingegangen wird. Eine kurze Beschreibung des Einsatzes von Content-Management-Systemen für barrierefreie Web-Angebote legt den Schwerpunkt auf die Systeme Joomla! und TYPO3.
    Insgesamt zeichnet sich die Kombination von Buch und Web-Site durch einen hohen Praxisbezug aus. Die Texte sind leicht zu lesen, die Sprache ist einfach und verständlich. Zahlreiche farbliche und grafisch gestaltete Randnotizen enthalten Verweise und Erläuterungen und stellen Bezüge her, sowohl zu den Beispielen als auch zu den einzelnen Prüfpunkten der Barrierefreie Informationstechnik-Verordnung (BITV). In den Text integrierte Abbildungen sowie Hinweise auf Benutzungsprobleme für Menschen mit Behinderungen und Testmöglichkeiten machen die Problematik von Barrieren deutlich, auch für Leser, welche die Vorteile einer barrierearmen Gestaltung von Web-Sites verstehen wollen, ohne sich auf die Ebene des Quellcodes begeben zu müssen, wobei die Beispiele durchaus eine tiefergehende Auseinandersetzung mit der Programmierung erlauben."

    Abstract
    Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde ein Web-Content-Management-System (WCMS) entwickelt, welches Bibliotheken auch mit geringen finanziellen und personellen Mitteln erlaubt, eine attraktive Website zu erstellen, die ohne HTML-Kenntnisse einfach und zeitnah aktualisiert werden kann. Als Komplettlösung, die das Ziel verfolgt, den das System nutzenden Bibliotheken sämtliche administrativen Tätigkeiten abzunehmen, wird das System den Bibliotheken dem Software-Bereitstellungs-Modell "Software-as-a-Service" entsprechend, auf einem von einem Dienstleister betriebenen Webserver gegen eine Mietgebühr bereitgestellt und ist auf diese Weise sofort und ohne spezielles IT-Fachwissen nutzbar.
