Abstract

Im Laufe der Jahrmillionen hat die Natur eigenständige Strukturen und Gebilde hervorgebracht, die den Eindruck erwecken, als habe sie sich ihrer eigenen Stofflichkeit entfremdet. Sind diese Schatten der Materie ein Zeichen für die Grenzen einer naturalistischen Verfassung alles Seienden oder nur Ausdruck des schöpferischen Potentials der Natur? Bernulf Kanitscheiders Antwort ist klar: Unser Universum ist eine Welt der Materie und der Stoff, aus dem diese Welt besteht, ist weder träge noch tot, sondern lebendig und kreativ. Deshalb braucht es auch keine übernatürlichen Kräfte, um das Geschehen zu erklären; mit der Idee der "Selbstorganisation" läßt sich ein schlüssiges Bild von der Welt zeichnen (und selbst ein Phänomen wie Virtualität kann sich dieser Erklärungsmacht nicht entziehen). Bernulf Kanitscheider bringt die naturalistische Sicht der Dinge näher, erläutert ihre Varianten und stellt uns die Tradition vor (fast ausschließlich Denker der Antike, denn die folgende christlich geprägte Epoche bevorzugte eine ganz andere Sicht auf Mensch und Welt). In einem eigenen Kapitel wendet er sich der Praktischen Philosophie zu und erörtert, was eine naturalistische Philosophie auf die Frage "Wie sollen wir leben" antworten könnte.
