    Abstract
The literature of psychology, library science, management, computer science, and systems engineering is reviewed and integrated into an overall perspective of human information seeking and the design of information systems. The nature of information seeking is considered in terms of its role in decision making and problem solving, the dynamics of the process, and the value of information. Discussions of human information seeking focus on basic psychological studies, effects of cognitive style, and models of human behavior. Design issues considered include attributes of information systems, analysis of information needs, aids for information seeking, and evaluation of information systems

    Abstract
Describes the application of the Dewey Decimal Classification phoenix schedules, for data processing, computer science and computer engineering (004-006), to a selection of materials classified according to older schedules in a Boston public library. The revised schedules were easy to learn and apply, and browsability was improved by reclassification.

    Abstract
New tools are necessary to improve the performance of map librarians and those available, when used in conjunction with one another can promote efficient collaborative map collection development. Bypassing the most obvious ais, on-line map cataloguing, the following tools are discussed: engineering photocopiers; electronic mail and special interest groups; the Research Libraries Group Conspectus; and the GEODEX geographic index system for map series.
