    Abstract
    Librarians in West Germany have thesauri for subject cataloguing through the use of Regeln fur den Schlagwortkatalog (RSWK - Subject Cataloguing Rules) with the Schlagwortnormdatei (SWD - Standard Keyword Data File). There is controversy over the terminological properties of standard keyword data files, over whether SWD is universal and whether inductive vocabulary construction is successful here. Some RSWK chain components have no separate semantic isentity and, although SWD has several aids for definition precision, semantic structures are not fully expressed. At present cooperative cataloguing partners using RSWK should use SWD with it as a starting point and think about possible improvements. RSWK with SWD is at present unsuitable for personal computers

    Content
    § 14 regelt die Anordnung der Schlagwörter in einer Schlagwortfolge. Sie wurde auf eine formale Reihenfolge vereinfacht; bei Zusammentreffen von mehreren Schlagwörtern der gleichen Kategorie soll eine sinnvolle Reihenfolge gewählt werden. § 15 macht grundsätzliche Aussagen zur Anzeige und zum Retrieval von Schlagwortfolgen. Außerdem wurde § 106 dahingehend geändert, dass in Zukunft der Homonymenzusatz bei Personen nur eine der SWD zu entnehmende Bezeichnung sein soll; die Unterscheidung von engen und weiten Berufsbezeichnungen mit einer zugelassenen Liste wird aufgegeben. In § 731 wird hinsichtlich der Kirchenbauten präzisiert, welche Bezeichnungen als Individualnamen gelten. Die Expertengruppe Sacherschließung hat die Änderungen an den RSWK auf ihren Sitzungen am 20. April 2009 bzw. 16. November 2009 beschlossen. Der Standardisierungsausschuss hat auf seiner 18. Sitzung am 25. November 2009 einer Veröffentlichung und Inkraftsetzung zum 1. Januar 2010 zugestimmt. Die Anpassungen des Regelwerks, die sich aus den geänderten §§ 13-15 ergeben, sollen Anfang 2010 veröffentlicht werden.     Abstract
    In der vorliegenden Form können die RSWK nicht befriedigen. Die geforderte hochdifferenzierte Erschließung ist in einem OPAC wegen der vielfältigen Abfragemöglichkeiten gar nicht nötig, ja eine einheitliche Indexierung und effiziente Suche is aufgrund der komplexen Regeln sogar erschwert. Aufgaben und Probleme der verbalen Sacherschließung in OPACs werden in dieser Arbeit aufgezeigt und Ansätze zu einer Alternative diskutiert. Der traditionelle Indexkatalog hat als Ergänzung des modernen Information Retrieval nur eine Zukunft, wenn die Möglichkeiten der EDV und der Faktor Mensch bei der Regelwerkentwicklung besser berücksichtigt werden
