    Abstract
    Das Exzellenzcluster Kognitive Interaktionstechnologie (CITEC) an der Universität Bielefeld beschäftigt sich seit 2013 mit der virtuellen Realität (VR). Ausgehend von konkreten Projektkooperationen (Publikations- und Forschungsdatenmanagement) mit der Universitätsbibliothek ist die Idee entstanden, mit der in 2016 neu angebotenen Konsumer-VR-Hardware die im Labor entwickelten Interaktionstechniken auf geeignete Szenarien im Bereich von bibliothekarischen Umgebungen anzuwenden. Als interessantes Anwendungsgebiet kristallisierte sich im gemeinsamen Diskurs die Literatursuche heraus: Als Suchsystem wurde die Bielefelder BASE-Datenbank (d.i. Bielefeld Academic Search Engine mit inzwischen mehr als 100 Mio. indexierten Dokumenten) ausgewählt. Diese Auswahl erfolgte vor dem Hintergrund, dass sich die von zahlreichen externen Institutionen bereits genutzte API-Schnittstelle als universell und robust erwiesen hat und umfangreiche Funktionen bereitstellt. Auf der Grundlage der umfangreichen theoretischen und praktischen Erfahrungen des CITEC mit VRTechniken wurde der Prototyp für eine virtuelle Suchumgebung realisiert, der ein Retrieval in einem Suchraum von Online-Dokumenten erlaubt. Die Nutzerinnen und Nutzer können die Suchanfrage explorativ zusammenstellen und dabei die Ergebnisse intuitiv verwalten. Unterstützt werden sie dabei durch Ergebnisanzeige, Sortierung, Optimierung des Suchergebnisses mittels Suchverfeinerung (Drilldown-basiert) oder Anfrageerweiterung und Wiederverwendung von abgelegten Ergebnissen. Gleichzeitig wird der Zugriff- und Lizenzstatus visualisiert und die Detailanzeige der Metadaten des Objektes integriert.

    Abstract
    Discovery Systeme erlauben einen neuen und anderen Zugriff auf verfügbare Ressourcen einer Bibliothek als die traditionellen Online-Kataloge. Daraus ergeben sich Probleme, aber auch Chancen für die Nutzung und Sichtbarkeit der bibliothekarischen Sacherschließung. Der Vortrag gibt einen Einblick in die Funktionalitäten und Funktionsweisen von Discovery Systemen am Beispiel eines großen Players, Primo von ExLibris, sowie die Auswirkungen auf bibliothekarische inhaltliche Metadaten. Es werden Chancen und Grenzen der Technik beleuchtet. Der Vortrag schließt mit der Reflektion der Implikationen für die Arbeit im Fachreferat.

    Abstract
    Methoden und Techniken der Informationsvisualisierung werden seit ungefähr zwanzig Jahren im Bereich der Informationssuche eingesetzt. In dieser Literaturstudie werden ausgewählte Visualisierungsanwendungen der letzten Jahre vorgestellt. Sie betreffen zum einen den Retrievalprozess, das Boolesche Retrieval, die facettierte Suche, Dokumentbeziehungen, die Zufallssuche und Ergebnisanzeige, zum anderen spezielle Anwendungen wie die kartenbasierte und adaptive Visualisierung, Zitationsnetzwerke und Wissensordnungen. Die Einsatzszenarien für Applikationen der Informationsvisualisierung sind vielfältig. Sie reichen von mobilen kleinformatigen Anwendungen bis zu großformatigen Darstellungen auf hochauflösenden Bildschirmen, von integrativen Arbeitsplätzen für den einzelnen Nutzer bis zur Nutzung interaktiver Oberflächen für das kollaborative Retrieval. Das Konzept der Blended Library wird vorgestellt. Die Übertragbarkeit von Visualisierungsanwendungen auf Bibliothekskataloge wird im Hinblick auf die Nutzung des Kataloginputs und des Angebots an Sucheinstiegen geprüft. Perspektivische Überlegungen zu zukünftigen Entwicklungsschritten von Bibliothekskatalogen sowie zum Einfluss von Visualisierungsanwendungen auf die Informationspraxis werden angestellt.

    Abstract
    Enhancing content description of specialized resources, particularly astronomical resources, is a matter that is still unresolved in library and information science. In this paper, the authors outline deficiencies in some fields and elements of cataloging standards for description of historical astronomical resources, mainly star atlases and catalogs. Furthermore, they review their recent proposal of astronomical parameters for a better description and propose an approach for accommodating these parameters in the current criteria of MARC 21, the International Standard Bibliographic Description, and Resource Description and Access. Fourteen new parameters are considered, and recommendations are provided to standards developers for the addition of elements to accommodate attributes of celestial cartographic resources. This would improve bibliographic records for such resources in astronomical libraries' OPACs, which will have a beneficial effect on information retrieval.

    Abstract
    Dewey Decimal Classification has been used to organize materials owned by the three scientific libraries at the University of Pavia, and to allow integrated browsing in their union catalogue through SciGator, a home built web-based user interface. Classification acts as a bridge between collections located in different places and shelved according to different local schemes. Furthermore, cross-discipline relationships recorded in the system allow for expanded queries that increase recall. Advantages and possible improvements of such a system are discussed.

    Abstract
    This research investigates how people's perceptions of information retrieval (IR) systems, their perceptions of search tasks, and their perceptions of self-efficacy influence the amount of invested mental effort (AIME) they put into using two different IR systems: a Web search engine and a library system. It also explores the impact of mental effort on an end user's search experience. To assess AIME in online searching, two experiments were conducted using these methods: Experiment 1 relied on self-reports and Experiment 2 employed the dual-task technique. In both experiments, data were collected through search transaction logs, a pre-search background questionnaire, a post-search questionnaire and an interview. Important findings are these: (1) subjects invested greater mental effort searching a library system than searching the Web; (2) subjects put little effort into Web searching because of their high sense of self-efficacy in their searching ability and their perception of the easiness of the Web; (3) subjects did not recognize that putting mental effort into searching was something needed to improve the search results; and (4) data collected from multiple sources proved to be effective for assessing mental effort in online searching.

    Abstract
    Although technology can often correct spelling errors, the complex tasks of information searching and retrieval in an online public access catalog (OPAC) are made more difficult by these errors in users' input and bibliographic records. This study examines the search behaviors of 38 university students, divided into groups with either easy-to-spell or difficult-to-spell search terms, who were asked to find items in the OPAC with these search terms. Search behaviors and strategy use in the OPAC and on the World Wide Web (WWW) were examined. In general, students used familiar Web resources to check their spelling or discover more about the assigned topic. Students with difficult-to-spell search terms checked spelling more often, changed search strategies to look for the general topic and had fewer successful searches. Students unable to find the correct spelling of a search term were unable to complete their search. Students tended to search the OPAC as they would search a search engine, with few search terms or complex search strategies. The results of this study have implications for spell checking, user-focused OPAC design, and cataloging. Students' search behaviors are discussed by expanding Thatcher's (2006) Information-Seeking Process and Tactics for the WWW model to include OPACs.

    Abstract
    The construction and updating of indexing languages depend on the organization of their hierarchical structures in order to determine the classification of related terms and, above all, to allow a constant updating of vocabulary, a condition for knowledge evolution. The elaboration of an indexing language for online catalogs of libraries' networks is important considering the diversity and specificity of knowledge areas. From this perspective, the present paper reports on the work of a team of catalogers and researchers engaged in the construction of a hierarchical structure of an indexing language for an online catalog of a university library's network. The work on hierarchical structures began by defining the categories and subcategories that form the indexing language macrostructure by using the parameters of the Library of Congress Subject Headings , the National Library Terminology and the Vocabulary of the University of São Paulo Library's system. Throughout the stages of the elaboration process of the macrostructure, difficulties and improvements were observed and discussed. The results enabled the assessment of the hierarchical structures of the languages used in the organization of the superordinate and subordinate terms, which has contributed to the systematization of operational procedures contained in an indexing language manual for online catalogs of libraries.

    Abstract
    Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to investigate the usability of the user interface to an online catalogue and to explore how user assessment of both system usability and functionality can provide recommendations for the improved design. Design/methodology/approach - Drawing on previous studies, the usability testing used a mixture of search tasks, interviews and a structured focus group. Representative users completed tasks designed to test the system's features and a "think aloud" protocol collected data about the users' responses when using the system and on its perceived functionality. Findings - The analysis of the data on users' evaluation, preferences and expectations by a set of usability attributes enabled recommendations to be made with respect to key areas of the system functionality. Practical implications - The usability study helped to improve the "look and feel" of the interface and demonstrates how the user expectation of what constitutes a supported experience can help make recommendations for the design of a system that is both usable and useful. Originality/value - The paper demonstrates the benefits of using a mixture of approaches to test system usability and to gain a better understanding of usability from the perspective of the system's users, their expectations and perceived usefulness of the system.

Der Service beinhaltet eine Rechercheoberfläche mit Suchunterstützung durch eine moderne Suchmaschine, Erweiterung des Suchraums mit Inhalten aus Datenbanken und Volltexten durch einen Resource Discovery Service und alle gewohnten Funktionen eines lokalen OPACs. Technisch besteht HDS aus dem Open-Source-OPAC VuFind, der Suchmaschine Solr, dem Discovery-Service EDS und dem ReDi-Linkresolver. Dieser Beitrag geht auf die Projektstruktur und die Erfahrungen bei der kooperativen Entwicklung ein.

    Abstract
    Bibliotheken sind nicht chaotische Sammlungen von Medien, sondern werden stets als Information-Retrieval-Systeme implementiert, denn das Wiederfinden bei exakten und vor allem bei vagen Anfragen ist von Anfang an das Sammlungsziel. Niemand kennt zum Zeitpunkt der Sammlung die Fragestellung, die einen zukünftigen Benutzer zu diesem Medium führen wird. Die Art der Sammlungsorganisation bestimmt in hohem Maße die zukünftig mögliche Antwortmenge und deren informatorische Qualität. Der Siegeszug der digitalen Information-Retrieval-Systeme im Internet hat in den letzten zehn Jahren Erwartungen und Märkte geschaffen, die weder Karteikarten, noch deren digitales Ebenbild, die heutigen Bibliotheksmanagement-Systeme befriedigen können. Es genügt nicht mehr, dass Google und andere kostenlos das aufsammeln und nachweisen, was im Internet frei zugänglich ist. Alte, noch »marktfähige« Inhalte werden neu aufbereitet, mit neuen Inhalten kombiniert, um neue Geschäftsfelder zu schaffen. Es geht um Verdrängung und Neuverteilung, und die älteren Inhalte der Bibliotheken sind meist noch hinreichend »marktfähig«.

    Abstract
    This paper describes a survey on how system vendors and libraries handled tagging in OPACs and discovery layers. Tags are user added subject metadata, also called folksonomies. This survey also investigated user behavior when they face the possibility to tag. The findings indicate that legacy/classic systems have no tagging capability. About 47% of the discovery tools provide tagging function. About 49% of the libraries that have a system with tagging capability have turned the tagging function on in their OPACs and discovery tools. Only 40% of the libraries that turned tagging on actually utilized user added subject metadata as access point to collections. Academic library users are less active in tagging than public library users.

    Abstract
    In diesem Artikel geht es um die bisherigen Tests der AK Bibliothek Wien mit dem Discovery System VuFind. Es handelt sich um eine mögliche Alternative zu Primo, einer weit verbreiteten proprietären Suchlösung an österreichsischen Bibliotheken. Nach einem kurzen technischen Überblick wird beschrieben, welche Entwicklungen und Anpassungen vorgenommen werden mussten, um eine Kompatibilität zwischen VuFind und den in der AK Bibliothek vorherrschenden Bedingungen zu schaffen. Dabei wird näher auf die Verarbeitung des Datenformats MAB2 sowie die Schnittstellen zum Bibliothekssystem Aleph und dem Bibliotheks-Repository eingegangen. Die ersten Ergebnisse werden präsentiert und noch zu lösende Probleme angesprochen. Zudem wird ein Ausblick auf zukünftige Vorhaben gegeben.

    Abstract
    Die enge Zusammenarbeit der vier Berliner Universitätsbibliotheken1 reicht weit zurück. Bereits vor der Jahrtausendwende haben die Berliner Universitätsbibliotheken (UBs) gemeinsam das Bibliothekssystem Aleph 500 ausgewählt und implementiert, danach folgten weitere Systeme - das Linking System SFX, die Digitale Bibliothek MetaLib und das Bibliotheksportal Primo. Es war daher folgerichtig und selbstverständlich, dass auch die Auswahl und Implementierung eines neuen Bibliothekssystems in enger Abstimmung und Zusammenarbeit erfolgte. Die Erfahrungen bei Vertragsverhandlungen und Implementierung von Alma sind Gegenstand des folgenden Berichtes.

    Abstract
    In einer 2018 an der Evangelischen Hochschule Nürnberg durchgeführten Studie wurde das Zusammenspiel unterschiedlicher Rechercheinstrumente nach der Einführung eines Resource Discovery Systems ("OPACplus") untersucht. Eine Online-Nutzerbefragung ergab einerseits - trotz verschiedener Probleme - eine große Zufriedenheit sowohl mit dem OPAC als auch mit dem OPACplus, zeigte aber auch, dass das Nebeneinander Schwierigkeiten macht und der OPACplus noch intensiver genutzt werden könnte. Ein Fokusgruppengespräch mit den Mitarbeitenden zeigte u.a., dass der OPACplus besser beworben werden muss. Es werden einige Vorschläge für Verbesserungen der Nutzeroberfläche des OPACplus und eine Marketingstrategie gemacht. Jedoch kann das Resource Discovery System derzeit weder die Fachdatenbanken noch den OPAC vollständig ersetzen.

    Abstract
    The discovery service (a search engine and service called WILBERT) used at our library at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau (TUAS Wildau) is comprised of more than 8 million items. If we were to record all licensed publications in this tool to a higher level of articles, including their bibliographic records and full texts, we would have a holding estimated at a hundred million documents. A lot of features, such as ranking, autocompletion, multi-faceted classification, refining opportunities reduce the number of hits. However, it is not enough to give intuitive support for a systematic overview of topics related to documents in the library. John Naisbitt once said: "We are drowning in information, but starving for knowledge." This quote is still very true today. Two years ago, we started to develop micro thesauri for MINT topics in order to develop an advanced indexing of the library stock. We use iQvoc as a vocabulary management system to create the thesaurus. It provides an easy-to-use browser interface that builds a SKOS thesaurus in the background. The purpose of this is to integrate the thesauri in WILBERT in order to offer a better subject-related search. This approach especially supports first-year students by giving them the possibility to browse through a hierarchical alignment of a subject, for instance, logistics or computer science, and thereby discover how the terms are related. It also supports the students with an insight into established abbreviations and alternative labels. Students at the TUAS Wildau were involved in the developmental process of the software regarding the interface and functionality of iQvoc. The first steps have been taken and involve the inclusion of 3000 terms in our discovery tool WILBERT.

    Abstract
    Die Arbeitsgruppe PrimoImplementierung des Österreichischen Bibliothekenverbundes evaluierte im Winter 2010/11 Primo Central, den Discovery und Delivery Service von Ex Libris, im Zuge eines dreimonatigen Testzuganges und mehrerer Frage-und-Antwort-Runden mit Produktentwicklern von Ex Libris. Primo Central integriert hunderte Millionen anbieterseitig gelieferter Metadaten zu vornehmlich unselbständiger Literatur mit lokalen Beständen. In Bezug auf viele Forschungsgebiete wurde Primo Central als inhaltsreich empfunden, hauptsächlich hinsichtlich wissenschaftlicher Zeitschriftenaufsätze. Es deckte die Bestände einer großen und einer mittleren Universaluniversitätsbibliothek gut ab. Das Fehlen nationaler (deutschsprachiger) und regionaler Titel schränkt die Anwendbarkeit für Suchen nach österreichischem und deutschem Recht wesentlich, für Suchen in den Bereichen Wirtschaft, Psychologie und Bauingenieurwesen teilweise ein. Primo Central wird regelmäßig aktualisiert, ist jedoch notwendigerweise weniger aktuell als Verlagsplattformen oder PubMed, demzufolge auch weniger aktuell als Federated Search-Systeme wie MetaLib. Die dauerhafte Verfügbarkeit von Datenquellen in Primo Central kann von Ex Libris nicht garantiert werden. Die Metadaten der in Primo Central indexierten Ressourcen kommen derzeit nur zu einem geringen Teil vom Verlag selbst (der Großteil über CrossRef und IngentaConnect ), und enthalten daher oft keine inhaltliche Erschließung. Die Suchmöglichkeiten und die Reihung der Treffer nach Relevanz sind vergleichbar mit Google Scholar. Zusätzliche Funktionalitäten von Primo Central betreffen die Möglichkeit der Facettierung der Suchergebnisse und die Einschränkung der Treffer auf an der jeweiligen Bibliothek verfügbare Volltexte. Die Implementierung von Primo Central verlief schnell und problemlos. Voraussetzungen für den Einsatz von Primo Central sind die Verwendung von Promo als Bibliothekssuchmaschine oder von MetaLib als Federated Search System und der Einsatz eines Link Resolvers (nicht zwingend SFX).
