    Abstract
    Case Based Reasoning is a very important research trend in Artificial Intelligence and can be a powerful approach in the solution of complex problems characterized by heterogeneous knowledge. In this paper we present an ongoing research project where CBR is exploited to support the identification of enterprises potentially going to bankruptcy, through a comparison of their balance indexes with the ones of similar and already closed firms. In particular, the paper focuses on how developing similarity measures for strings can be profitably supported by metadata models of case structures and semantic methods like Query Expansion.

    Abstract
    This study uses bibliometric analysis and citation context analysis to identify the influence of the main concepts embedded in Taylor's 1968 classic article entitled Question-Negotiation and Information-Seeking in Libraries. This study analyses articles published between 1969 and 2010 which cite Taylor's article. The results show that Taylor's article on a question-negotiation model is increasingly visible and its influence is not limited to the discipline of library and information science. Of the 14 cited concepts identified, the concept of "four levels of information needs" was cited most (31.7%), followed by "question negotiation" (20.5%) and "other concepts relating to information needs" (17.9%). The results indicate an increasing trend in the citations of "four levels of information needs" and this concept also received the most attention from information retrieval research. A decreasing trend was evident for the concept of "question negotiation" and this concept was frequently cited by reference service researchers. In addition, among the 10 citation functions, "related literature" was dominant (30.8%). Both "evidence" and "views" were in second place with the same percentage (18.7%), followed by "terms" (9.2%) and "background information" (7.2%). A decreasing trend was identified in the top three citation functions, whereas an increasing trend was observed in the "term" and "background information" functions.

    Abstract
    In the developing world, a common trend is to have north-south collaborations constituting most of the continuous professional development (CPD) activities for librarians. The emerging drift highlighted in this article is a north-south-south initiative aimed at rebuilding the University of Juba Library through capacity-building of the library staff. This article will illuminate the process of equipping library staff with cataloging skills in the absence of previous library training. This endeavor is a result of the collaborative efforts of Makerere University Library (MakLib) in Uganda and the University of Bergen Library (UoBL) in Norway under the Juba Library Automation Project (JULAP). JULAP's main objective is to rebuild the University of Juba Library with the components of library automation and training of library staff. This article will concentrate on the practical training of the library staff in cataloging and the hands-on training on the Koha integrated library system to lay the groundwork for computerized library services for the University of Juba. This article will also highlight the challenges and lessons learned so far while articulating strategies for the future.

    Abstract
    With the development of Chinese education, more and more Chinese scholars pay attention to inter-departmental, inter-regional and even international collaboration, and publish more high quality articles. Exploring the collaborative situation of Chinese scholars in international articles will help Chinese scholars to understand the international collaborative situation. This paper selected international articles published by Chinese scholars in knowledge organization from WOST as research object, then from three aspects, seven angles, analyzed the collaborative situation of Chinese scholars. And it finds that both the accumulative number of articles and the accumulative number of co-published articles show exponential growth trend, and the collaborative rate of Chinese scholars rises from 50% in 1992 to 92.53% in 2016. Besides, the collaborative size is 2-5 authors. More importantly, higher collaborative size appears with time. Those further indicate the importance of scientific collaboration. Chinese scholars co-publish articles with more and more nations or regions, however 20% top nations or regions have more than 78% co-published research articles with Chinese scholars. It not only reflects that the capacity of Chinese scholars' academic collaboration and academic exchange is growing over the years, but also reflects that the collaborative nations or regions with Chinese scholar are concentrated.

    Abstract
    Finding similarity between concepts based on semantics has become a new trend in many applications (e.g., biomedical informatics, natural language processing). Measuring the Semantic Similarity (SS) with higher accuracy is a challenging task. In this context, the Information Content (IC)-based SS measure has gained popularity over the others. The notion of IC evolves from the science of information theory. Information theory has very high potential to characterize the semantics of concepts. Designing an IC-based SS framework comprises (i) an IC calculator, and (ii) an SS calculator. In this article, we propose a generic intrinsic IC-based SS calculator. We also introduce here a new structural aspect of an ontology called DCS (Disjoint Common Subsumers) that plays a significant role in deciding the similarity between two concepts. We evaluated our proposed similarity calculator with the existing intrinsic IC-based similarity calculators, as well as corpora-dependent similarity calculators using several benchmark data sets. The experimental results show that the proposed similarity calculator produces a high correlation with human evaluation over the existing state-of-the-art IC-based similarity calculators.

    Abstract
    People who are collaborating can share files in two main ways: performing Group Information Management (GIM) using a common repository or performing Personal Information Management (PIM) by distributing files as e-mail attachments and storing them in personal repositories. There is a trend toward using common repositories with many organizations encouraging workers to use GIM to avoid duplication of files and management. So far, PIM and GIM have been studied by different research communities, so their effectiveness for file retrieval has not yet been systematically compared. We compared PIM and GIM in a large-scale elicited personal information retrieval study. We asked 275 users to retrieve 860 of their own shared files, testing the effect of sharing method on success and efficiency of retrieval. Participants preferred PIM over GIM. More important, PIM retrieval was more successful: Participants using GIM failed to find 22% of their files compared with 13% failures using PIM. This may be because active organization aids retrieval: When using personally created folders, the failure percentage was 65% lower than when using default folders (e.g., My Documents), and more than 5 times lower than when using folders created by others for GIM. Theoretical reasons for this are discussed.

    Abstract
    Major efforts have been conducted on ontology learning, that is, semiautomatic processes for the construction of domain ontologies from diverse sources of information. In the past few years, a research trend has focused on the construction of educational ontologies, that is, ontologies to be used for educational purposes. The identification of the terminology is crucial to build ontologies. Term extraction techniques allow the identification of the domain-related terms from electronic resources. This paper presents LiTeWi, a novel method that combines current unsupervised term extraction approaches for creating educational ontologies for technology supported learning systems from electronic textbooks. LiTeWi uses Wikipedia as an additional information source. Wikipedia contains more than 30 million articles covering the terminology of nearly every domain in 288 languages, which makes it an appropriate generic corpus for term extraction. Furthermore, given that its content is available in several languages, it promotes both domain and language independence. LiTeWi is aimed at being used by teachers, who usually develop their didactic material from textbooks. To evaluate its performance, LiTeWi was tuned up using a textbook on object oriented programming and then tested with two textbooks of different domains-astronomy and molecular biology.

    Abstract
    In this work, we explore the types of triggers that spark trends on Twitter, introducing a typology with the following 4 types: news, ongoing events, memes, and commemoratives. While previous research has analyzed trending topics over the long term, we look at the earliest tweets that produce a trend, with the aim of categorizing trends early on. This allows us to provide a filtered subset of trends to end users. We experiment with a set of straightforward language-independent features based on the social spread of trends and categorize them using the typology. Our method provides an efficient way to accurately categorize trending topics without need of external data, enabling news organizations to discover breaking news in real-time, or to quickly identify viral memes that might inform marketing decisions, among others. The analysis of social features also reveals patterns associated with each type of trend, such as tweets about ongoing events being shorter as many were likely sent from mobile devices, or memes having more retweets originating from a few trend-setters.
