    Abstract
    Der avisierte Umstieg von RAK auf AACR bindet die Arbeitskraft von Bibliothekaren, ohne dass als Resultat ein zukunftsfähiges Regelwerk mit rationellen Arbeitsprozessen zustande kommen wird. Dies führt nicht nur in eine Sackgasse in der Entwicklung bibliothekarischer Informationssysteme. Bei denjenigen Spezialbibliotheken, die nicht über die arbeitsteiligen Strukturen wie eine Katalogabteilung verfügen, sondern ihre Arbeit eigenständig nach Vorgaben ihrer Institutionen und Prioritäten organisieren müssen und gegenwärtig vor viel wichtigeren Aufgaben stehen (Digitalisierung von Dokumenten, Internetangebot, Informationsvermittlung, Wissensmanagement, Verwaltungssteuerung, Kostenrechnung usw.), deren Bewältigung schon die normale Arbeitskapazität überfordert, kann dies direkt in eine Krisensituation führen. Diskussionen, Aufsätze und Fortbildung zu diesem Thema drohen somit aufgrund dieser zusätzlichen Arbeitsbelastung ein Teil dieses Problems zu werden, es sei denn, man schafft es, die gegenwärtige Situation als Anlass zu nehmen, ein wirklich zukunftsfähiges Regelwerk zu entwickeln und auch durchzusetzen. Ich erlaube ich mir daher, zehn Thesen über "Die Katalogisierung der Zukunft" vorzulegen, um eine derartige Diskussion anzustoßen. Zunächst muss allerdings auf drei wesentliche Elemente der bisherigen Diskussion eingegangen werden, damit der Blick frei wird für die eigentlichen Probleme: die stillschweigenden Voraussetzungen, die Metaphorik des Nutzens, die Paradoxa des deutschen Bibliothekswesens.

    Abstract
    »AACR und kein Ende?«, fragte Heidrun Wiesenmüller im Märzheft dieser Zeitschrift skeptisch, und sie schloss ihre Stellungnahme gegen einen Umstieg der deutschen Bibliotheken auf AACR und MARC in der Hoffnung, »dass Entscheidungen über die Zukunft der formalen Erschließung künftig wieder nach einer inhaltsbetonten und konstruktiven Diskussion sowie im breiten Konsens getroffen werden«. Die Positionen von Wiesenmüller auf der einen und Renate Gömpel als Vertreterin der Arbeitsstelle für Standardisierung Der Deutschen Bibliothek auf der anderen Seite scheinen zu weit auseinander, als dass sich ein Konsens abzeichnen könnte. Doch dass ihr folgender Beitrag »inhaltsbetont und konstruktiv« ist, darf Gömpel zweifellos für sich beanspruchen.
