    Abstract
    In den Sozial- und Geisteswissenschaften herrscht die Überzeugung vor, soziale und kulturelle Phänomene seien autonom und änderten sich eigengesetzlich. Ein verkürztes Verständnis der Konstruktivität menschlichen Wahrnehmens und Denkens verstärkt diese Gewissheit. Damit vernachlässigt man die Frage nach den Wirklichkeitskonstrukteuren und danach, ob sie nicht evoluierte anthropologische und sozial bedingte Gemeinsamkeiten (Bedürfnisse, Handlungstendenzen, Präferenzen, ästhetische Vorlieben u.Ä.) aufweisen, die ihre individuellen und sozialen Konstruktionen beeinflussen und zur Konstruktion von Universalien führen. Der Band diskutiert diese These mit Beiträgen aus der Soziologie, Psychologie, Philosophie, Anthropologie, Linguistik, Medizin-, Kunst- und Literaturgeschichte.

    Abstract
    Das Problem der Wahrnehmung und Darstellung von Wahrheit durch die Medien führt zu vier zentralen Fragen: Wie viel Wahrheit gibt es in der Welt, über die Journalisten berichten müssen? Wie ermittelt oder recherchiert man diese Wahrheit? Wie trennt man die Spreu vom Weizen? Und wie geht man als Journalist mit dem um, was man als Wahrheit erkannt hat oder erkannt zu haben glaubt? Hier gibt es ganz offensichtlich eine Parallele zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern. Journalisten und Wissenschaftler brauchen erstens Hypothesen, zweitens geeignete Hypothesentests, drittens ein gutes Abgrenzungs-Kriterium und viertens Verfahren, um die erkannten Sachverhalte auf angemessene Weise für eine Kommunikation mit anderen zu repräsentieren, das heißt sie darzustellen. Es gibt zwei große Unterschiede zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern: Journalisten sind in der Regel auf raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen aus, Wissenschaftler in der Regel auf raumzeitlich unbegrenzte Gesetze. Aber diese Unterschiede sind fließend, weil Wissenschaftler raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen brauchen, um ihre All-Aussagen zu überprüfen, und Journalisten sich immer häufiger auf das Feld der allgemeinen Gesetzes-Aussagen wagen oder doch zumindest Kausalinterpretationen für soziale Phänomene anbieten. Der zweite Unterschied besteht darin, dass die Wissenschaft weitgehend professionalisiert ist (zumindest gilt dies uneingeschränkt für die Naturwissenschaften und die Medizin), was ihr relativ klare Abgrenzungs- und Güte-Kriterien beschert hat. Diese fehlen weitgehend im Journalismus.

    Abstract
    In dieser Arbeit werden die gängigen, aber unzulänglichen Modelle zur Auswahl und Gestaltung von Nachrichten mit Hilfe der Chaostheorie und des erkenntnistheoretischen Konstruktivismus in einen neuen Systemzusammenhang eingebunden und weiterentwickelt. Die Chaostheorie zeigt, wie bei der Nachrichtenauswahl und -gestaltung zum Beispiel dynamische Ordnungsbildung, Unschärfe und iterative Eigendynamik wirksam werden. Der Konstruktivismus verdeutlicht, welchen Einfluß beispielsweise soziale Kopplung, informale Rollen und erforderliche Vielfalt haben.

    Abstract
    1990 wurde in Amerika die «Dekade des Hirns» ausgerufen. Zehn Jahre später erklärten auch in Deutschland führende Hirnforscher eine «Dekade des menschlichen Gehirns». Mit neuester Technologie wollten sie «dem Gehirn beim Arbeiten zusehen», Ursachen krankhafter Fehlfunktionen ergründen und Aufschlüsse über mentale Prozesse wie Wahrnehmung, Informationsverarbeitung und Sprache gewinnen. Revolutionäre Erkenntnisse über das Wesen höherer kognitiver Leistungen lieferten sie bis heute nicht, auch wenn manche Neurowissenschaftler dies anders sehen. Für Kultur- und Geisteswissenschaftler ist menschliches Denken und Wissen das Ergebnis kulturgeschichtlicher Entwicklung, die mit naturwissenschaftlichen Methoden nicht entschlüsselbar sei. Wie aber ist die Verbindung von Körper und Geist vorstellbar? Jede mögliche Antwort ist Vorstellung oder Gedanke und beantwortet daher die Frage nicht wirklich. Ist das gelebte Leben die Antwort?

    Abstract
    Die Sprachfähigkeit galt und gilt Vielen als Charakteristikum des Menschen. Die Forschungsgruppe "Was ist der Mensch?" (KWI Essen/Universität Dortmund) untersucht daher u.a. Universalien menschlicher Verständigungsfähigkeit im Blick auf Natur und Kultur. Das setzt einen angemessenen Begriff von Sprache voraus und erfordert die Auseinandersetzung mit den wichtigsten Sprachtheorien. Sie soll hier exemplarisch aufgenommen werden.
