- Abstract
- Conference proceedings are difficult to catalog, and even when the cataloging is correct, the records may be difficult to find. The rules for cataloging conference proceedings are necessarily complex in order to accommodate a wide variety of items. Changes in the rules have resulted in inconsistent records. Local decisions are necessary for minimizing inconsistencies within local catalogs. A detailed account of one library's decisions in regard to one particular problem, that of classification, is given to illustrate the value of adhering to national standards as well as the possibility of occasional deviation.
