Abstract: Die Bereitstellung von Bibliothekskatalogen im Internet ist für die Nutzer ein enormer Vorteil. Soe können quasi vom heimischen Schreibtisch aus in den Beständen ihrer Bibliothek bzw. einer ganzen Region recherchieren, häufig werden auch die Informationen bereits nicht mehr fachbibliothekarischen Gesichtspunkten aufbereitet, sondern entsprechn den Ansprüchen der Benutzer. Hinzu kommt, daß immer mehr Bibliotheken ihre WWW-OPACs mit Benutzungsfunktionen ausstatten, so daß die Kunden auch Informationen über den eigenen Kontostand einholen können. Insgesamt gibt es in Deutschland ein breites Spektrum sowohl an über das Internet erreichbaren OPACs als auch an Bibliotheksverbünden
