Abstract

Selten passten neue Herausforderungen so gut zu neuen Chancen der Weiterbildung wie im Zeitalter des Internet: Lernen ist keine Frage des Standorts mehr - Lernen ist vielmehr eine Frage der geeigneten Angebote. Die Zeit der Standardangebote ist vorbei. Zielgruppenspezifische Angebote, die die Bedürfnisse der Lernenden inhaltlich und in der Art der Vermittlung treffen, sind die Zukunft der Weiterbildung. Hier haben öffentliche Bibliotheken mit dem Projekt "bibweb - das Lernforum" den Anschluss an die Zukunft bereits gefunden. Ein exklusives Forum im Internet mit Weiterbildungsmodulen, Information und Kommunikation -speziell für die Bedürfnisse von Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern in öffentlichen Bibliotheken - erlaubt es, sich auch bei knappen Kassen und geringem Zeitbudget auf den aktuellen Stand bibliothekarischen Wissens zu bringen und mit den Veränderungen in der Bibliothek Schritt zu halten. Was als Projekt "bibweb - das Internettraining" der Bertelsmann-Stiftung und der ekz begann, hat sich im Nachfolgeprojekt "bibweb - das Lernforum" zu einem innovativen Weiterbildungsforum zu aktuellen bibliothekarische Fragen, wie "Kundenorientierung" und "Bibliothek für junge Kunden", entwickelt. Ein solches zielgruppenspezifisches E-Learning Angebot sucht in anderen Berufsfeldern seinesgleichen. Die Leistungsfähigkeit des Internet als Informationsressource und des Computers als Arbeitsgerät können kaum besser kennengelernt werden, als im aktiven Umgang damit.

Abstract: Das Internetangebot vieler Bibliotheken ist derart umfangreich, dass eigentlich eine Einführung in Dienstleistungen und Funktionalität sinnvoll erscheint. Nun nimmt aber nicht gleich jeder Nutzer an entsprechenden Einführungen teil, zumal für derartige Veranstaltungen auch noch die Anwesenheit in der Bibliothek zu einer bestimmten Zeit erforderlich wird. Sidemaps und Suchfunktion führen nicht immer zum Ziel, eine virtuelle Führung durch das Angebot über die Homepage ist eine mögliche Alternative.

»Auf der rechten Seite sehen Sie die Nachschlagewerke, gleich dahinter befinden sich die Semesterapparate der sozialwissenschaftlichen Fächer...« Nicht erst seit heute empfinden Studienanfänger die klassische Bibliotheksführung als Zumutung, schon zu früheren Zeiten blieb bei dieser Form der Präsentation meist nicht viel hängen. Durch das Internet hat sich die Erwartungshaltung des Publikums zusätzlich gewandelt, Vortrag und Führung gelten als antiquiert und wenig effizient: Schließlich muss der Auskunftsdienst die fehlenden Kenntnisse über Medienangebot und Dienstleistungsprofil kompensieren. Dagegen fahren mittlerweile viele Hochschulbibliotheken eine Doppelstrategie: Zum einen wird mit dem Konzept der Teaching Library versucht, die Informationskompetenz als obligatorischen Baustein einer akademischen Basisausbildung zu etablieren. Zum anderen ermöglichen Online-Medien neue Formen der Kommunikation zwischen Kundschaft und Bibliothek.

Abstract: In January 2001, the OCLC Institute released its first online learning course, Cataloging Internet Resources Using MARC21 and AACR2. This research investigated whether participants using this Web-based tool would gain experience equivalent to that of librarians who are already proficient in the skill of cataloging Internet resources. A pre-course/post-course comparison of test results of librarians not experienced with cataloging Internet resources indicated an increase of 35 percent (from 51 to 86 percent) of the correct answers after taking the Web-based course. The group experienced with cataloging Internet resources answered an average of 71 percent of the questions correctly.

"Nach dem schlechten Abschneiden deutscher Schüler in der Bildungsstudie Pisa setzt sich der Börsenvereinsvorsitzende des Deutschen Buchhandels, Dieter Schormann, für einen "Runden Tisch" auf Bundesebene mit den Länder-Kultusministern ein. Teilnehmen sollten daran auch Vertreter aus der Wirtschaft, Buchhändler, Verleger, Pädagogen und Bibliothekare, sagte der Gießener Buchhändler. Schormann: "Der Runde Tisch soll Signale setzen. Wir brauchen ein breites gesellschaftliches Bewusstsein für die Bedrohung der Zukunft durch das Bildungsdefizit." Hier seien besonders Politik und Wirtschaft gefordert. Nach der Veröffentlichung der Pisa-Studie hätten gerade Wirtschaftskreise zu viele "Prügel" verteilt. Auch die Unternehmen ständen in der Pflicht, über neue Bildungskonzepte nachzudenken. Laut Pisa-Studie können mehr als ein Fünftel der deutschen Schüler Texte nicht mehr richtig lesen und verstehen. Im "Rausch der Entwicklung rund ums Internet" hätten viele Verantwortliche die "Bodenhaftung" verloren, nannte Schormann dafür als einen Grund. Bücher würden im Schulunterricht inzwischen vielfach durch das Internet ersetzt. Das sei falsch. Schormann: "Alle sagen, Schulen müssen ans Netz. Was bringt das, wenn die Lesekompetenz nicht mehr vorhanden ist, um die neuen Medien zu nutzen?" Viele Kinder würden zudem die Lust am Lesen verlieren, weil die im Unterricht verwendeten Bücher oft veraltet seien"

Abstract: The Colorado Digitization Project is a cooperative endeavor designed to enable creation of a virtual library of unique resources and historical collections in Colorado through assisting all types of Cultural Heritage Institutions in the State to scan and make available on the Internet images of materials and artifacts within their collections. Abstract: This article endorses the use of Web-based instruction for cataloging education as represented by OCLC's online course, Cataloging Internet Resources Using MARC21 and AACR2. This type of instruction is particularly useful to working catalogers (professional and paraprofessional alike) who cannot spare the time or the expense to attend workshops and seminars in order to receive training in the latest developments in the field. The OCLC course also paves the way for a new standardized program of online cataloging education that will be tailored for working catalogers at all levels of expertise and that will offer specialized, yet convenient, training in a wide variety of formats.
