    Abstract
    Keine neue Nacherzählung, sondern eine Frage, nämlich die, ob es 1968 gegeben hat, ist Gegenstand dieses Essays. Natürlich hat es das Jahr 1968 gegeben. So wie auch die damit verknüpfte Studentenbewegung stattgefunden hat. Aber war 1968 wirklich der Umschlagpunkt, der eine verkrustete, unbewegliche Welt in eine offene Zukunft geführt hat? Jedenfalls ist der Mythos 1968 ein Erzählanlass, dem auf den Grund gegangen werden muss. Denn was für individuelle Biografien gilt dass sie sich eingängiger erzählen lassen anhand eines kritischen, alles ändernden Ereignisses, gilt auch für die Nacherzählung von gesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen: Wenn es einen Kairos gibt, den entscheidenden Moment, durch den das chronologische Nacheinander beeinflussbar ist, lässt sich im Nachhinein alles erklären. Da aber auch solche vermeintlichen Plötzlichkeiten nicht einfach vom Himmel fallen, sind auch sie erklärungsbedürftig. Zu klären ist, welche gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Entwicklungen und Veränderungen 1968 möglich gemacht haben. Ob 1968 Ursache oder Effekt von Veränderungen war. Und was davon geblieben ist

Der Umweltökonom Niko Paech liefert dazu die passende Streitschrift, die ein »grünes« Wachstum als Mythos entlarvt. Nach einer vollen Arbeitswoche möchte man sich auch mal etwas gönnen: ein neues Auto, ein iPad, einen Flachbildfernseher. Ruckzuck steckt man im Teufelskreis aus Konsumwunsch und Zeitmangel. Und nicht nur das: der stete Ruf nach »mehr« lässt Rohstoffe schwinden und treibt die Umweltzerstörung voran. Dabei gelten »grünes« Wirtschaftswachstum und »nachhaltiger« Konsum als neuer Königsweg. Doch den feinen Unterschied - hier »gutes«, dort »schlechtes« Wachstum - hält Niko Paech für Augenwischerei. In seinem Gegenentwurf, der Postwachstumsökonomie, fordert er industrielle Wertschöpfungsprozesse einzuschränken und lokale Selbstversorgungsmuster zu stärken. Das von Paech skizzierte Wirtschaften wäre genügsamer, aber auch stabiler und ökologisch verträglicher. Und es würde viele Menschen entlasten, denen im Hamsterrad der materiellen Selbstverwirklichung schon ganz schwindelig wird.

    Abstract
    In einer Zukunftsvision der kalifornischen Technokultur wird die Singularitätmärchenhaft als der Moment verklärt, in dem die Fortschritte der Vernetzung und Rechenleistung darin gipfeln werden, dass Computer "Bewusstsein" und Unabhängigkeit vom Menschen erlangen.2 Der Mythos, dass die Maschinen eines Tages die Kontrolle über genau jene Menschheit übernehmen werden, der sie ihre Existenz verdanken, ist nach einem Jahrhundert Science-Fiction, von Samuel Butlers Roman Erewhon aus dem Jahr 1872 (der unter anderem Gilles Deleuze und Felix Guattari zu ihrem Begriff der Maschine angeregt hat) bis zum Film Matrix von 1999, zum Volks-Aberglauben geworden. Derartige dystopische und eindeutig reaktionäre Visionen bilden nicht nur den gegenwärtigen Konflikt zwischen kollektivem Körper und maschineller Ausbeutung ab, sondern stützen sich auch unverkennbar auf die techno-deterministische Annahme einer Autonomie der Maschinen von der politischen Macht des Sozialen. Am Begriff der Singularität lässt sich beispielhaft zeigen, wo das Netz seine Grenzen findet, wo Momente des Bruchs auftreten, und wo Transformationen zu neuen technologischen und sozialen Konfiguration stattfinden. Die Geschichte der Medien ist eine Geschichte der kontinuierlichen Akkumulation von Energie, eine Geschichte von Paradigmen-Brüchen und von Übergängen durch Momente der Singularität. Dabei reproduziert sich ein und dieselbe Ökonomie über alle Abfolgen von Krisen und Brüchen hinweg, von einer Produktionsform zur anderen, so dass man beinahe den Moment der Singularität selbst als das bestimmende Modell der Ökonomie betrachten könnte, die sich ja aus den Effekten der Akkumulation und der Verwandlung von einfachem Geld in Finanzkapital speist.
